I'd do it in a heartbeat. You never know how inductions are going to go. I have a friend who had 3 elective inductions and she said they were super easy. She went into labor on her own once and said it was horrible.

I wouldn't induce except for medical reasons. It gets so tempting at the end. Maybe some adult time will get that water to break:)

@boiledpnut: i guess it all depends on our personal experiences. i went into labor on my own with both kids, and both times it was super fast! i might be singing a different tune if either were late or i had a hard time!

This is so similar to my situation with my second! I was 3 cm for 3 weeks, my mom had already arranged time off from work, and my doctor offered to break my water at my next appointment (39 weeks, 3 days). I ended up going into labor at exactl3 39 weeks and didn't end up taking the induction, but I totally would have if I had made it that far!

@chopsuey119: What about red raspberry leaf tea? My doctor said it can cause contractions...maybe it'll push you over the edge.

@chopsuey119: I was so uncomfortable at the end with my son and I had false labor every night for the last week! I was beyond ready for an induction at that point. Even without an induction my second birth took the same amount of time as my first. My boy has a big head, lol!

@chopsuey119: I haven't bought any but I was reading this thread the other day (http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/did-you-drink-raspberry-leaf-tea-to-prep-for-labor#post-444416) and you could try Whole Foods/that type of grocery store/health food store. You might want to ask your doc how much to drink--some people on the thread said several cups a day but my doc said to start out really slowly.

@chopsuey119: Lol going through my last pregnancy is what makese reconsider having a third! Before DS I was so sure I'd have another but I don't think I could take care of two kids and be pregnant again!

I wouldn't medically induce except in case of serious need, personally.

I have a good tip to get labor going though! Walk up and down stairs with your legs spread far apart, like a sumo wrestler, and stomp up and down. It opens up your pelvis and helps baby engage.
You can also try getting on your hands and knees, and swinging your hips back and forth. I've seen that work a few times.

Also: unprotected sex (semen contains prostoglandins that soften the cervix), bouncing on an exercise ball, and nipple stimulation (by hand or breast pump).
Foods that haven't been proven to work for sure but certainly can't hurt: pineapple, spicy food, dates, bananas, and balsamic vinegar.

Never! I was practically induced with DS just after my edd & ended up with a cesarean. With DD I went 12 days "late" (we knew our conception date) and she was only 6 lb 1 oz.... Had I gone with an early erc or even on my edd I can't even imagine how little she would've been.

I also have a friend that recently had a horrible delivery experience after being induced early. She was incredibly "favorable" for induction, was 5 cm, almost completely effaced, & had numerous bouts of preterm labor. She ultimately had a cesarean for FTP & had complications that causes her to have multiple follow up surgeries, miss so much work she almost lost her job, & despite having successful breastfed her other children (all natural unmedicated deliveries) she was unable to breastfeed this new lo. I know her story is extreme, but it does happen & I never thought I would personally know someone that had an experience like hers.

@Arden: @boiledpnut: Me too!!! I'm sure if I had done that towards the end of my pregnancy I sure woulda felt like a sumo wrestler! Lol

@boiledpnut: @runsyellowlites: It looks hilarious. I'm usually standing right behind the mama making sure she doesn't fall, and trying not to giggle. It works great though! Also fantastic to do in early labor to help get baby down and really engaged.

No way. I'd wait and go naturally.

@chopsuey119: I don't think that I ever posted it here. I did on WB though. I can post it here though tomorrow or something. I was in labor for 72 hours. Because they had broken my water at one point, I almost got forced into a c-section, but my body finally decided to start dilating at the 68 hour mark. It was hell.

I would try all the "natural" induction methods before getting Pitocin-induced. With my second, I walked a TON and started taking Evening Primrose capsules. I gave birth the day I started those, but I think it was just a coincidence. The red rasp leaf tea helped with making contractions super strong and efficient, but I had been drinking that since 32 weeks to help tone the uterus.

@junebugmama: Almost the same story here. My next baby would have to be in serious distress, as was my first one. My induction was hell, from start to finish to the end of her week in the nicu because she wasn't ready to be born.

I probably wouldn't. I was so worried that I would have to be induced. Everyone I know personally who was induced ended up having an awful labor and a c-section.
