@spaniellove: Thanks, good luck at your appointment, lets know how it goes.

@ineebee: It is totally possible...anything above 5 is positive and it has worked out for ladies who've been in the single digits! Keeping you in my thoughts and hoping you get a great next beta.

@ineebee: I really hope the numbers get better ASAP! Have you had your progesterone checked? (sorry ladies, I'm a broken record...) There is someone on here who had similar numbers as you and was diagnosed with low P (twice in a row). She got on supplements and now has 2 healthy kids.
I know being in "limbo" sucks, but just keep telling yourself that you are pregnant at this moment, positive thinking helps!

@ineebee: Oh one more thing...the numbers you mentioned may be "normal" but I've heard betas can be lower after IVF/IUI and it seems pretty common to have a first beta under 100.

@ineebee: I am thinking of you. So sorry you have to endure more waiting. Like the others said, a normal pregnancy can start off with low numbers.
@spaniellove: Is it weird that I am excited about your appointment today?

@raintreebee: Eek, I am so ready to move on after that 1st IVF! Ready to get some answers and ready to figure out if/when we're doing another IVF cycle!

@mrs someone: I don't remember hearing about my progesterone levels specifically, but I did get everything under the sun checked and progesterone wasn't one of the problems. I have been on a progesterone suppository just to be safe, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. But they were expecting a normal HCG number.
@spaniellove: Oh really? I'd never heard that! If that's the case, that's definitely encouraging!
@raintreebee: Hugs! Thank you!
@beetones: (raises hand) I had my first IUI two weeks ago!

@ineebee: Oh wow, so this means it worked! Did you have any issues before that? as in what was your diagnosis before you decided to go the iui way?
nectarine / 2765 posts
@ineebee: Congrats on the positive hcg! Hoping the next couple grueling days go by quickly and you get good news on thurs!
pomelo / 5228 posts
@ineebee: You should definitely be good there then I see that IUI/IVF has lower numbers to begin with, hopefully that means all is well for you!

@ineebee: congrats!! I hope that you get great news on Thursday and I agree with everyone else - there are definitely women who have low initial hcg numbers and go on to have healthy pregnancies..

@beetones: That's the hope! I am, as they say, "cautiously optimistic." I went off BCP 16 months ago and after very unpredictable and strange cycles, I finally got bloodwork done and was diagnosed with PCOS. Prior to this cycle, we tried one Clomid/timed intercourse cycle, which was obviously unsuccessful. For this cycle, we were on Clomid + Ovidrel trigger shot followed by IUI.
How about you? I remember you said that you're hoping not to have to resort to medical intervention. To be honest, I always considered IUI barely a step above doing it naturally. They also recommend that we BD the night of the trigger, so it's kinda nice knowing that there's still the act of love involved, you know? - and not just being impregnated by a catheter. So romantic!

@ineebee:congrats on the positive news:) fingers crossed that the good news keeps on comin.
@mrs.someone:thanks for the words of encouragement. I think I may just test toward the end of this week so I can just move on.
@shutterbug: I'm 8 dpo so may test in a couple of days.

@suzimo: Thanks and good luck to you, too! It's such torture. I always thought it was such a cruel joke that pregnancy, Clomid and AF have such similar symptoms! Praying for some great news for you.

@ineebee: AAAHH! Congratulations! A positive beta is a good thing. My first beta was 46.5. They told me it was low and I started to think about what it could mean too - but all of the encouragement here on HB helped me focus on the good. The fact that you ARE pregnant right now is good. I know it's nerve-wracking to keep going in for more beta tests. I had 4 beta tests over the past three weeks before my numbers were awesome. Think positive, take that progesterone, and take good care of yourself

@spaniellove: I'm like @raintreebee, all excited for your appointment today and happy that you will get more answers. I'm thinking you're in the appointment right now - hope it's going well!

I need to catch up on todays news but I'll just give a quick update first. I was on BCP this cycle to try and get rid of my cyst. It was Lo Loestrin LE I think. CD 15-20 I had breakthrough spotting and the RE office advised me to double up on my pills. My last active pill was on Friday, CD 27. Fast forward to today, CD 31, and still no AF. So I Google that BCP and apparently it is pretty common to not have a period with it. Which prompts me to call my RE office and I finally get an answer that I can come in tomorrow for an ultrasound to check on the cyst. I am so glad I called the RE! I'll give you an update after my appointment tomorrow. Thanks for all your well wishes so far!

@sweetooth: I am still at the appt - apparently we do a ton of tests and discuss the results before we leave. He thinks I may have endo too. W!T!F! I believe him but come on!
nectarine / 2705 posts
@spaniellove: wow - testing, results and a discussion about them all in one appointment? What makes him think you have endo? Are you informing him of all of your vast knowledge about your body? Good luck with the rest of the appointment...

@Beetones: I am going to have my first IUI this month. Taking Follistim injections every other day and took Clomid on Days 3-7.

@spaniellove: damn that's a thorough doctor! I'm excited to hear how it all turns out!

@kentuckygirl: Yay for you! Way to do that research and make the call! Good luck tomorrow

@kentuckygirl: Good for you! its really hard sometimes to make those calls ( well at least it is for me, I always imagine the nurses being like " her again") but if you don't advocate for yourself no one else will.
@spaniellove: Sounds very thorough. I hope you get the answers your looking for.

@ineebee: My DH won me over, so we're on to IUI for this next cycle. I just got the all clear to begin, so i start taking clomid tonight. and come next week we'll know what's next.

@hanaleilove: Good luck girl, be sure to keep us updated, i'm still nervous about it even tho i've been cleard to start the process.
pomelo / 5228 posts
@spaniellove: Wow, thats great to get tests and results all in the first appointment. Wouldn't they have come across potential endo in all the monitoring for your IVF though?
honeydew / 7916 posts
Okay, I'm finally back. The appointment was 4 hours! (A lot of it involved waiting, though.) I feel good about the hope he gave us although seriously, could there be more wrong with me?!
As you already know I have DOR which means my ovaries have very few eggs left. He thought I may have endo after reading my history and then asking me questions about my periods. He told me that it's not uncommon in women with DOR, and when I said it was strange that my periods weren't heavy and painful until the last few years, he said that was par for the course and sounded very much like endo.
After looking at some of my cells on a slide, he thought I could really use some progesterone support in the LP. He said it wasn't horribly low but needed help and could be the reason I wasn't getting pregnant. (ETA: I'm actually supposed to start the Endometrin tonight, in case it could help my current cycle.)
So we're going to try at least one cycle of timed intercourse with just Endometrin and monitoring to make sure I'm actually ovulating a mature follicle. After that I'll do IVF in May unless I've changed my mind. He didn't think there was any benefit to IUI over timed intercourse (TI) because after testing DH he felt the sperm could swim up just as well either way.
Even though I said I was sure I ovulated really late, they added a beta to my b/w so I'll get an unnecessary call back tomorrow telling me I'm not pregnant. I don't need to go through that trauma again!

@spaniellove: That sounds like a very successful appointment! Yay for your RE! Glad to hear that you're on a course and that the issues are being addressed. Crossing my fingers for a big fat healthy egg for you this month!
nectarine / 2705 posts
@spaniellove: Sounds like you had a really thorough appointment. Timed intercourse with endometrin and monitoring sounds like a good plan. I think that monitoring will be key. Enjoy this more low key approach, maybe it will be just what your body needs to produce that BFP

@twodoghouse: @raintreebee: Thanks for the info. I think we will finish this IUI cycle since I am already almost done my meds and then I guess we will have to make some serious decisions. I hate feeling like we are wasting time and money on something that has a very small probability of working.
@Beetones: Congrats on making the decision to do an IUI this cycle. I know its hard to hear that you need "help" but hopefully it will be all you need to get your BFP.
@spaniellove: Sounds like you had a really good appointment. I am convinced that I should be on progesterone too, do you mind if I ask how long your LP is?
@kentuckygirl: Good for you for speaking up and calling the office.
@ineebee: Congrats, like the others have said today you are pregnant! FX that your betas keep rising.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@mrswin: My LP is 14 days, although before I started taking B6 it was more like 12-14 days. In hindsight I guess I did notice some dips in my chart and mid-cycle spotting but there was never anything noticeable enough to make me think of progesterone - except in my IUI cycle where on a lower dose of progesterone supplements I had an 11 day LP.

@sweetooth: Thank you!! I'm curious - what did your numbers look like? Do they expect you to jump up to meet the "average range" before you're in the clear, or if you continue to double every couple days (even though it's lower than average), it's still okay??
nectarine / 2705 posts
@ineebee: My numbers went from 46.5 - 172 - 470 - 2449 . One of my beta tests was two days apart, and a few were 4 days apart. After each one when I got the call if they scheduled another beta I felt like I couldn't let go of the worry. They never really said they were looking for me to meet the "average range" - but I had a feeling at the point I reached 470 they needed my next one to be over 1000 for sure. But as far as the numbers go, I think it's all about doubling.
Look at these ranges though -
3 weeks LMP: 5 – 50 mIU/ml
4 weeks LMP: 5 – 426 mIU/ml
5 weeks LMP: 18 – 7,340 mIU/ml
I don't know where you are at based on your last menstrual period, but seeing these ranges helped me feel less stressed. Also, once you get your second numbers drop them into this calculator so you can see the rate of your numbers doubling.

So no surprise, my beta was negative but based on my E2 and progesterone they were able to confirm that I'm about a week away from AF. I thought I was but my post-IVF cycle has been weird and long so it was good to have it confirmed. They want me to go back Monday for another beta - on one hand I don't want to hear "negative" again, but I do appreciate that they're looking for every possible chance unlike my previous clinic that mostly abandoned me unless I was doing an IVF.

@spaniellove: Sounds like a great doctor. Were you on progesterone for the IVF cycle? Are you still on it?
