IF Check In - 3/28

Hello ladies! As an effort to get to know everyone and where we all are in our journeys I want to start a weekly check in. If you guys are into this, I'll start a new thread each week so we can stay up to date with what is going on in our lives.

This is open to anyone with infertility, whether short term or long term.

Share only what you're comfortable with. Obviously.

What cycle are you on?
What are your plans for this cycle?
How is your attitude/outlook?
What have you struggled with most this week?

Do you have any questions you want me to add or take off for next week?

    I'll play!

What cycle are you on? 13

What are your plans for this cycle? Taking a break, having lots of sex and enjoying life, waiting for consult with a new RE and follow up with old RE after our failed IVF.

How is your attitude/outlook? Getting a little better...feeling a little less hopeless than earlier in the cycle when things were more raw.

What have you struggled with most this week? With the possibility of our insurance change, thinking about how we could continue to fund IF treatment and even afford to pay for a child's medical care.

Do you have any questions you want me to add or take off for next week?
What is your diagnosis, if you have one? (Am I the only one here with diminished ovarian reserve? Is there anyone here with high FSH or low AMH?)

What cycle are you on?: I have a hard time keeping count because I don't have regular cycles. We are in month 36 though.

What are your plans for this cycle?: I am back on bcp in an effort to lose weight by getting my hormones regulated again. When I went off bcp they went pretty crazy.

    My attitude: positive.

What have I struggled with?: it's hard to convince myself that I'm not getting pregnant this cycle. I have PMS symptoms and I'm so used to trying to believe they're early signs of pregnancy. Even though I'm taking bcp I find myself wanting to take a pregnancy test.

@spaniellove: good one! I didn't even think of that. I'll definitely add it. My diagnosis is PCOS and Mr. Polish has a low sperm count.

Good idea! Should it be monthly though? Not sure if I'll have updates every week Anyway, here's mine

What cycle are you on? 13
What are your plans for this cycle? Doing all my initial testing with the RE (U/S, BW, HSG, SA)
How is your attitude/outlook? Hopeful! For the first time in a long time. All my tests have come back good so far, all we have left is DH's SA.
What have you struggled with most this week? Stressing over the HSG. I had a meltdown with DH last night about not feeling supported, so that was rough too, but we're on the same page now.
Diagnosis: Nothing yet, but I have a short LP (10 days) and low CD21 progesterone

@Shutterbug: I assume the weekly check ins will be fairly redundant, but I don't think it's a bad thing. I want to stay current with everyone!

@Mrs. Polish: good point! Especially since the IF support thread is crazy long

  7. spaniellove

@Shutterbug: Maybe we could take suggestions for a question a week? BTW I'm so glad your testing is moving forward!

  8. Mrs. Polish

    blogger / nectarine / 2010 posts

@Shutterbug: exactly. I check the IF thread, but feel there is so much history there that it's hard to jump in.

Thanks for starting this! It's easier to read/catch up in this form. I've been a lurker in the IF board but haven't posted much.

What cycle are you on? Lost count, lil over 4-1/2 yrs, including one m/c.

What are your plans for this cycle? Tomorrow I hear the blood test results from IVF. My fingers & toes are crossed.

What is your attitude/outlook? Hopeful. If you'd asked a couple months ago, this would not have been the case.

What have you struggled with this week? Remaining patient for results. Trying to find a happy medium of staying positive but also not too much so in the case the results are negative so I'm not completely crushed.

Diagnosis: Unexplained. Had a deviated septum which was fixed, other than that, all is well "down there." Heh

@Shutterbug: I'm not completely current with everyone, so, if I'm asking a stupid/already covered question, please forgive me!
Is it an upcoming HSG you're nervous about?

@LMOG47: it was, until this afternoon! I just had it this morning, and I had built it up to be a way bigger deal than it was

What cycle are you on? 25

What are your plans for this cycle? We're doing unmedicated cycles until IVF in August, so we're just being casual, trying not to stress.

How is your attitude/outlook? I have good days and bad days. We're putting off IVF until August because we have a trip planned at the end of June and a lot of other stuff (work craziness, weddings, etc.) this spring. But I really wish we could start RIGHT NOW. In the meantime, we are trying to really appreciate all the wonderful things in our life, even if it doesn't include a baby (YET!).

What have you struggled with most this week? My cousin had a baby a week ago. I am really really excited about it, but the whole family has gone crazy over her baby. My dad comments on her husband's facebook wall daily about how coming home from work and seeing the baby's picture just brightens his whole day, etc. etc. That really...stings I guess. I'm trying to move past that though!

Diagnosis: I have not been formally diagnosed with endometriosis since I haven't had a lap. But all signs point to that being the issue.

@Shutterbug: I'm glad your HSG went well today! I also had low progesterone results and a luteal phase defect and my doctors believe it's because my prolactin was high and inhibiting the natural increase of progesterone after O. I'm sure your doctor will consider that, but just wanted to fill you in on my experience with something similar.

I love this idea! Thank you for starting this!

What cycle are you on? I'm not sure how to count!
What are your plans for this cycle? I'm on BCP to regulate my periods & on prenatals so we can start a cycle of Clomid in the near future.
    How is your attitude/outlook? Hopeful
What have you struggled with most this week? Twinges of jealousy (several more pregnancy announcements on facebook) and nervousness (I'll be blogging about that soon!)

Hi everyone, I am new! I am starting my first IUI this week.

What cycle are you on? 1st IUI
What are your plans for this cycle? Just going through the motions, taking Clomid Days 3-7, start Follistim injections tomorrow (every other day), and have an ultrasound scheduled Monday to see how things look. Will do the Ovidrel trigger once everything looks good.
How is your attitude/outlook? Very excited and happy!
What have you struggled with most this week? Not struggling with anything really, just trying to remain positive and think good, happy thoughts. This is my first IUI so I am just hopeful it works the first time.
Diagnosis: HA (no natural period since 2009), doctors cannot get me to ovulate. That's why we are starting the fertility medications.

    @hanaleilove: yay welcome!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: glad to see you on here! Do you have to start over with the RE or no?

@twodoghouse: Thank you! I have borderline high prolactin I think... RE didn't mention it, but it was on the high end of the range. I also have (had, I'm medicated now) high TSH, which I think can elevate prolactin (or vice versa?) I'm glad you decided to wait on IVF until after your big trip - it'll mean more wine and relaxation for you

Wow, it been busy around here lately! I've been busy with work, so I haven't been able to keep up. I can update though:

What cycle are you on? 13 (but we took 1 month off in there)

What are your plans for this cycle? Trying to chill out this month, since I took the BFN last month pretty rough and have been trying so hard lately... So just herbs (from my acupuncturist) and Circle + Bloom meditations this month. I'm 5dpo today.

How is your attitude/outlook? OK. C+B has been helping me stay positive. Also, this is my second trying month post-treatment, so I'm hopeful in that regard.

Diagnosis: MTHFR compound heterozygous, Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

@LMOG47: good luck tomorrow - keeping all fingers and toes crossed over here for you, too.

What cycle are you on? 18th TTC, 1st IVF

What are your plans for this cycle? 1st cycle of IVF - will prob be starting stims tomorrow or saturday

How is your attitude/outlook? feeling pretty good - cautiously optimistic

What have you struggled with most this week? dealing with insurance/pharmacy - there was a wicked disconnect between what everyone was doing, so getting it ironed out was a mess.

    Diagnosis: severe MF

@spaniellove: i'm glad you're starting to feel more hopeful - have you started with the new RE yet?

@hanaleilove: good luck with the IUI!

@spaniellove: Hypothalamic amenorrhea. They can't figure out why my brain doesn't transmit the signal to ovulate. My Hormone levels are all normal, I'm at a healthy weight, I don't exercise excessively anymore. I think it came on a couple of a years ago when I was going to the gym everyday and running a lot, while also monitoring everything I ate...not healthy at all! But once I was diagnosed in 2010, I stopped all of the obsessive behavior, gained some weight, and my periods just never came back.

@Shutterbug: @twodoghouse: I have a progesterone issue but have never heard of prolactin at all...off to do some reading...

Love this idea:) I think I can stay on top of this thread.
What cycle are you on? I think this is our 14th cycle
What are your plans for this cycle? I am currently 4 dpo on my first round of climid.
How is your attitude/outlook? My attitude is pretty good. I got my first ever positive on an OPK so that makes me feel really optimistic about this cycle. Well cautiously optimistic.

What have you struggled with most this week? Side effects I think from the clomid. I have been having headaches and an upset stomach.

Diagnosis: unknown for now. My blood work came back normal, but because I was having trouble getting a positive opk my OB wanted me to try clomid. Plan is to try it for a few months and if no dice go to RE.

What cycle are you on? 15 or 16? I can't remember...
What are your plans for this cycle? Waiting for AF to arrive so we can move forward with IUI! This was our 3rd clomid cycle, and I'm not expecting it to work.
    How is your attitude/outlook? Meh.
What have you struggled with most this week? Patience! I am "late" based on my opk date this cycle, and it's super annoying.

What cycle am i on: cycle 10
Plans for this cycle: I have a prescription for metformin and took it like 2 days and felt like crap so I stopped but I need to start that up again! Other than that, just bding pretty much every other day.
Attitude/outlook: always discouraged but I blame it on my depression. I've pretty much thrown myself into the infertile for life category.
What have I struggled with this week: I've been sick all this week and been sleeping too much. I just feel blah so we haven't been bding this week.

-What cycle are you on? I think I'm on 11 or 12, but had cycles where DH couldn't perform. So definitely missed out on those cycles. I have been trying since Nov of 2010 with a couple breaks.
-What are your plans for this cycle? Taking a TTC break to concentrate on job hunting and coping with IF.
-How is your attitude/outlook? Crappy. I haven't been coping with IF really well. I really don't think we will ever have kids naturally. When and if I get a new job and move, I think we should go ahead and start the adoption process. I am feeling a little bit better that if we go the adoption route at least we will be parents at some point.
-What have you struggled with most this week? The fear that I won't have kids naturally or our own biological kids.
-Diagnosis: Unknown. My tests are normal (HSG, bloodwork, ultrasound). DH has had history of low morphology but IUIs processing is good/ great. He also has difficulties performing so we can't just BD like normal. IUI is probably the best chance for us... without breaking the bank.

  35. fairefaire

@anonysquire: I promise the metformin gets better - it took me 3-4 weeks before I wasn't having an upset stomach regularly. But I feel totally normal again now.

I don't know what dosage you are on, but it helps to build up to the higher dose. My doctor did have me adjust my timing, too, maybe that will help for you? I started 1/day for a week, then 2/day, then 3/day, always with food. We recently changed the 3/day to one in the morning and two at night (rather than one with every meal), and that helped a lot in not making me feel sick. Good luck!

@PastaAndPotato: Seeing him in a few days! Not sure if I'll end up cycling with him, as it sounds like it's an unpleasant experience. But at least it'll be a second opinion. Excited for you to start stims!

  37. anonysquire

@alie: So it's take one a day for a week, then 2 a day for a week then 3 a day for a week. 500mg each. So I shouldn't take them with food?

  38. fairefaire

    kiwi / 526 posts

@anonysquire: Yes, definitely take them with food! Sorry, I just realized how I wrote that before was a little unclear. Here's exactly what I did (and I definitely had some stomach issues the first few weeks, but nothing horrific, and it's since subsided).

1st week: 500mg with breakfast each day
2nd week: 500 mg with breakfast and another 500mg with dinner each day
3rd week: 500mg with breakfast, 500mg with lunch, and 500mg with dinner each day.

I had a rough time adjusting to the 3rd week (I think there were two nights where I threw up - not fun), so we switched it to 500mg with breakfast and 1000mg with dinner, and it was much better.

My doctor also said if I wanted to go longer than a week before bumping up to the next level at any point, it was fine, just to pay attention to how my body is responding and go from there.

    I hope that helps!
