Would they be able to stick to it long term? I asked DH and he quickly agreed that our baby would probably be on formula already if he had to nurse and pump every 3 hrs!

Hummmm. Probably not, though pretty sure he'd appreciate being waited on while nursing, as I make him do for me.

@Mrs. Tricycle: haha....so true!!! I always seemed to get thirsty and hungry the second LO was on the boob!
There's no way my DH could handle it!

I think my husband would. He believes it's best for the baby so he's very committed to helping me make it work and I think he often wishes he could take on some of the responsibility. And honestly he wakes up with me and helps me get situated for most nursing sessions anyway.

I'm sure DH would try it...not sure about sticking to it!

We really struggled with breast feeding and my husbands heart broke for me. He was very supportive of me sticking with it because that's what I wanted. I think DH is much more relaxed than I. It takes him much longer to get frustrated or upset. So that would lead me to believe that he would stick with it too. However, I would hope that I could be just as supportive as he was for me, if the situation was actually real.

He probably wouldn't stick with it just because of the hassle of lugging the pump around. I have tried to get him to hook himself up to the pump just so he can see what it's like but he refuses.

Idk.... I know that DH totally believes in breastfeeding like I do & he's been incredibly supportive so I think he would really try. TBH I think it's pretty awesome when anyone sticks out some of the troubles we've had... many women don't so if DH even tried I'd be pretty proud.

I think if my DH could do it for us he'd be much more likely to stick with it - he's as stubborn as an ox!!

He's super, super supportive about BFing, believes its the best for mom and baby, and he was always on hand to help in those early weeks, but I don't know that he would stick with it.

haha, if men had to breastfeed, I'm willing to bet that only about 5% would continue on with it past a couple of months

I don't think he would. He's very supportive of me pumping, and actually thanks me for doing it. If it were up to him though, I think we'd be at formula. Also, DH has told me that if at any point I want/need to stop, he understands and we'll make it work.

@blackbird: 5% is the rate in Alabama, Mississippi, and West Virgina of woman that stick with it.
