Do they usually take the dog to their house or come to your house?
When my ILs had a bigger house they were our dog sitter when we went out of town to visit my family. And we would bring our dog to them. Now that they have a smaller home we typically board our dog. BIL & his GF offered to watch our dog the next weekend we're out of town. And I think he said he'll come to our house and stay. I thought that was a little weird... But whatever. He'll be saving us almost $200 on boarding fees.

When my BIL watches our dogs he stays at our house bc he lives in an apartment. I try to stock the kitchen with food and beer for him since we don't pay him. When I watch his dog he brings him to my house.

Before my little brother got married, he and his girlfriend stayed at our place to dog-sit and we paid them $25 a day to take care of the house and pets. It was a good deal for broke college students to have free cable/internet and a full kitchen to cook in.
Now that they got married and moved, we take the dogs to my parents and drop them off.

We bring our dog to my parents' house. Before their dog died we would stay over there to watch him, mostly because he had incontinence problems when he was older and their house was set up better for cleaning up messes. Maybe your BIL doesn't want dog fur/stuff all over his house? Do they have a dog?

We bring our dog to their house because they have a dog also. Before we found these friends, we had another friend stay at our house because it just made more sense.

We usually bring the dog over to the sitters house. I did have a friend of mine stay at my house once since he lives in a small condo with his parents and my dog would not have done well there. I'm ok either way, but most people would prefer to stay in their own house and have my dog there anyways.

My ILs watch our dog and we take him to them. When we had two dogs (one of which was a pretty crazy border collie mix!) they would sometimes stay at our house because we have a fenced yard. Unfortunately one time we took the dogs to the in laws and they did not keep her leashed and she was hit by a car. Now I insist they come to our house to watch Helo or he is on a leash AT ALL TIMES.

We've done both for my brothers' dogs. I don't think the dog sitter staying at your house is odd at all...

My brother and my BIL/his GF have dog-sat for us on multiple occasions. They always stay at our house because we have a fenced yard, a nice neighborhood for walks, and a guest bedroom where they can stay. They all live in apartments so it's way easier to stay at our place than to bring the dog to them.

We bring our dogs to my mom's house, just because it's easier and they've lived there before so we know they like it. My mom also sometimes dog sits for friends, and in that case she always goes to their house. She stays at the house if they want her to, or just stops by a few times a day if not.

It depends. When we went to Mexico for a week, we brought our dogs over to a friends house for them to watch for us. They also have a dog of their own, so it worked out well.
Otherwise, my brother will come over and stay at our house and watch our dogs

When DH's parents use to dog sit our dog we would bring our dog to them. When we had a dog and cat our dog walker would stop by the house twice a day, walked and played with our dog.

We've done both ways! We pay someone to watch our dogs through a service now most of the time, and they come to our place

We normally drop her off at the person who's watching her house. A few years ago someone volunteered to watch her and stayed in our house since she had an apartment which didn't allow dogs. Wasn't really weird and I knew our house was safe at night! The other two people who dog sit for us have houses so it's easier for them if we just bring her over.

@Shutterbug: I think that's why. He lives with his GF at her house and they don't have a dog. So I understand.
Personally if I was dog sitting for someone I wouk prefer to be in the comforts of my own home. But I have have dog.
Didn't know what the norm was with family.

Usually it's a close friend or family member, and they dog sit at our house. It's easier because we have a fenced in yard for the dogs to run around in.

@regberadaisy: Friends of ours took our dog when we went on our honeymoon and the dog went to their house. (they're also an hour away if that makes a difference)
Personally I would rather stay at my own house, but I can see someone wanting to be in the same house that the dog lives if the person lives in a non-animal friendly place.
If it were family or close friends (which is would be if they were looking after our dog) I wouldn't have an issue with it if they wanted to stay at our house to make life easier.

@WinterBee: they ended up wanting to take our dog to their house. It worked out really well. Our pup was attached to the GF's hip the whole weekend!

We missed our furbaby so much when we left. She bonded with my friends fiance and it made us kind of jealous (crazy! I know... ahha). But, she did miss us and loves me now! Bahhaha
