I wanted 3 and it took a long time to get dh on board (he loves the baby but still worries about the financial/logistical aspect). He probably would have been fine with one as he was an only and didn’t mind - but not nearly the pushback for #2 as #3. Maybe the women have more of the baby fever/emotional side? Maybe the men tend to see the logistical side more? Seems so stereotypical but it was true for us. I remember saying things like love and family is what matters, the money will work out.

We’re now agreed we’re finished and it’s nice to be on the same page after sooooo many discussions!

DH has known his whole life he wants kids. Originally, my first choice was 0 and second choice was 2. We both agreed not to have an only child, and are expecting our second. Neither of us want a third.

So, I started off wanting less but now we’re on the same page.

I always wanted 3 and DH was set on 2. Now that we have 2, I only want 2 and DH wants 3!

We do have infertility issues and we have agreed to not pursue any more treatments. If it happens, it happens. If not, we are happy with our boys.

I was on the fence about any biological ones but always wanted to adopt. We decided to have one biological one and then I wanted a second, I'm now very newly pregnant with our second. We will likely Foster in the future and be open to adoption depending so we could end up with 3

Okay, I have to be completely honest here. DH and I ALWAYS BOTH wanted 3 (still waiting for the 3rd to grace us with a BFP. ); however, when we had DD, we were so in awe of her and felt SO lucky to have had her (the "unexpected" pregnancy) that we didn't see a need for a 2nd or to discuss IF we "needed" another. Well, my husband (at the time active duty military) came back from deployment and within a month, I fell pregnant (with DS) ... both of us were elated! It did open up discussion for the future of our family. We decided that 2 or 3 would be great. I had (ANOTHER) high risk pregnancy and my husband almost lost me in childbirth. I suffered from postpartum depression and he began looking at getting a vasectomy... But, something kept stopping him, and I powered through my depression. We revisited our family plan and decided to try for #3. My husband and I have been at it for #3 for 34 cycles (* unexplained secondary infertility as after EVERY TEST imaginable has been run and nothing is "wrong.") We are still resilient and on the same page - THREE is the number. My husband is the youngest of 3 and I'm the eldest of 3. With that stated, were we to only have our 2, both DH and I would be happy as our children are really awesome and beautiful kids.

I wasn't always sure how many kids I wanted. I always saw myself with 2. DH has always wanted 3-4. I have medical complications during pregnancy so I've been told no more than 3 and I can live with that. I'm currently 26 weeks with #2 and tell him everyday I'm not doing this again He just smiles and says We'll see.

@DesertDreams88: Same as you. However, I do want a 4th...sometimes. Not that I’m even pregnant with a third yet. Hubby has drawn the line at 3/ wants one more too, but would also be whipping down to get his vasectomy if I said I was done now with our two.

I always wanted 2. My DH could have been happy with 0, 1 or 2. We have 2. It has never been a question to have more than 2. We’ve taken permanent measures, so we’re definitely done.

He wanted 4. I wanted 3. We have 3.

If I were younger and money wasn’t a factor, I would go for the 4th. But realistically I’m almost 40, work full time, and 3 kids is enough.

And my husband would have as many children as I said. He would have been ok with 2. I think his only issue would have been if I said none or 1.

My husband's motto about pretty much everything is "let's not create more work for ourselves" Which is very reasonable, as life can already be logistically challenging. I'm a little surprised given this that I convinced him to have kids at all, we'll see whether I can convince him to try for another...

We currently have two. I would like a third but my husband is not going for it. At all. I also have a strong gender preference and am not sure if I’m willing to roll the dice. We currently have one of each.

We always agreed that 2 was the number. We had DD easily and then we struggled to get a second BFP. We did fertility treatments and they didn't work. DH then began to be more one and done, but only bc of the difficulty, I couldn't give up the idea of two.... but finally I gave in and was happy with 1.... the next month we got BFP so we now have 2 and both agree (as always) that we are done.

I wanted a third (or fourth!) before we had our second, but OH was on the fence about #2. Now that #2 is here OH wants a third and I am totally done.

I've always wanted three kids (I come from 3) and so has husband. But after having our first two, he now wants four. As for me, I'm thinking one more and we're done simply due to logistics, we're both busy working, finances, etc. He is one of two kids and felt he always wanted a bigger family/more siblings growing up. But you're right, in my group of friends it seems the wife usually wants one more!

Same page more or less, but I def do 'want' it more than him. But I also know I ca handle 1 more if I really have to vs he knows his limits lol

We were pretty much on the same page with 2 kids, but my husband was wanting a third for a while, but knew practically it wouldn't make sense for us... I was always good with 2!

I'd be curious to know if the women that wanted more stayed home, or worked full time?? I find that most of the women I personally know that want more kids, stay home, or work from home part time... that additional cost for daycare/nanny seems to prohibit many.

I always wanted three and my husband wanted two. When we were going through trouble getting pregnant with 2, he could have stopped at 1 but I knew that wasn't right for me. While I see his logistical side of things and how 2 is much better suited for our personalities, I romanticize the idea of a third down the road but I also never want to TTC or be pregnant again.

Before kids, we both wanted 2. After #1, he wanted to stop and I still wanted 2. After #2, he was 1000% done, and I wanted 3, haha.

We're done at 2 (and now that they are both a little older, I think we're both happy with that).
