Spinoff of Mae's thread. 
My DH hates doctors after a couple of bad experiences as a child. It used to be very difficult to get him to go. I don't want him in pain or sick longer than he has to be. Nowadays he will go if he needs to without any complaints.

Yeah. It used to be a problem but he's gone to the urgent clinic a lot more than i have this year!

Not usually. If he's really sick then he will go, but other than that he will avoid it whenever possible.

Not usually - he also refuses medicine most of the time - drives me crazy!

He goes if he so much as stubs his toe. Dramaaaaaaaz with that one if he is sick. He goes to the doctor for colds!

No, he'll wait until it's basically an emergency. He suffered with a terrible cold for like 3 weeks last winter while I begged him to go to the doctor - he finally went and had bronchitis and a sinus infection, which abx cleared up in like 2 days.
Recently he "sprained" his ankle really badly and refused to see a doctor even though I begged and begged. 4 weeks later when it wasn't healing, he finally went in...to find out he had broken his ankle and torn a tendon.
Sigh.

DH hates doctors too! He had spent a lot of time at the hospital and so he reaaaally hates going. I've slowly gotten him to go get all his regular check-ups for family's sake

He's improved. He was really keen on the ER for a bit, which drove me crazy! It's so wasteful when the things he was going for were at best urgent care and mostly likely could wait for a sick visit with the dr the next day.

My ex-wife would go ASAP if I even casually mentioned that a symptom was kind of concerning and worth getting checked out.
My sweetie, OTOH, has chronic gut/digestive problems that he didn't get evaluated (for two decades!) until I insisted. He went to one gastroenterologist appt a little over a year ago, and has since refused to go back for any of the follow-up that was ordered. His glasses prescription is also at least 4 years out of date.

Yeah, because of his health he goes pretty often. His Drs fit him in because he's special. (I'm being serious.) Now the thing he won't do is make the freakin' appointment. I really have to remind him to do that. He sees the dr often but never schedules anything when he's in the office. So when he does need to be seen, he has to wait an additional month or so to be seen.

Before he didn't, but now he will. He was losing a ton of weight a couple of years ago, and finally after major nagging he went to the doctor. Turns out it was Graves' disease. Now he'll go without any protest.

Yes. After all I went through with the gallstones, he goes whenever I suggest he gets checked out.

It's a serious battle. He has no issue going to urgent care/CVS clinic if he has an illness he wants antibiotics for (I actually think he goes more than I do because he always thinks every illness is horrible whereas I just wait for them to blow over mostly). But for a "problem" rather than an "illness"? No way. I suspect it is because his dad has MS and he's scared of a horrible diagnosis like that always? But then again he could just be a guy.

Before we had DD, no. Now he will go right away at the first sign of a cold.

No, but luckily he really doesn't have health problems so it hasn't come up too many times. He'll get a flu shot or something every so often but he doesn't ever go for being sick and he doesn't do wellness exams either.

If I make the appointment, yes. Otherwise, he has to be really sick. This is very different from me, as I was raised in a household where it was the norm to go if we were sick. His was definitely not!

DH is more diligent about doctor's appointments than I am. He doesn't miss any of his yearly exams. And goes right away if he's not feeling well.
He also comes to every appt for DS as long as it works with his schedule and he also came to a lot of my OB appts when I was pregnant.

We made a deal that if either of us asked the other to go to the doctor, we would no questions asked. I've asked him to go once when he normally wouldn't have, and I went to urgent care once when I wouldn't have.

Ugh, I have to nag nag nag to get him to go. It's like he's convinced that he's "bothering" the doctor if he goes when he isn't dying of something terrible! I constantly tell him "this is what doctors and health insurance are there for - they get paid to see you!" but he just puts it off, waiting for it to get worse so he has a real reason to go.
I think it is because in his family they never took any of the kids to the doctor unless it was very very serious - but his mom was a nurse and could evaluate them at home so they didn't need to go often!

I have to nag him like crazy to get him to go. I'm already badgering him about getting his flu shot before baby is born (not until december).
He grew up in a very religious family that didn't believe in outside medical care or vaccines. He's not involved at all in the religion now, but he's still a little freaked out about doctors, etc. It's kind of hilarious because I'm a nurse and I grew up in a medical family.

@mrsjyw: This is DH. He goes to the dr much more than I do and is more willing to go for things where I tend to wait it out and see if an illness goes away on its own.

When my (now) DH and I were dating, he kept urging me to go to the dermatologist for a skin check. Knowing it had been YEARS since he'd been to his GP, I told him I'd go to the dermatologist if he'd go for a check-up.
2 and a half years later, I've been to the doctor multiple times and he's yet to go once.

@Boheme: yes. This is my husband times ten. It's hard to find sympathy for him when he's so dramatic. I want to feel bad for him, but at this point, I just don't care anymore. Unless he is completely laid out, get over it lol poor DH.
I have to be bleeding from my eyeballs before I'll go lol he has had to force me once or twice. My mom only took is if it was an emergency when we were kids so it's just not a thought in my head to go unless it's dire.

No. He was raised in a never go to the doctor mentality and it is hard to get him to go. He's probably been like three times since we've been married, two of those were trips to the ER.

I have to make the appointment for him and force him to go... He doesn't like to go to the doctor at all.
