I'm just curious for those who gave birth early, whether it was natural progression or medical issues? I find the whole idea of planning for an event that you can't predict the actual date of unnerving

Labor began naturally at 38w. I went in for my 38w appointment and I was 2cm dilated and 80% effaced. OB said I'd probably go into labor before my 39w appt. I went into labor that afternoon!

My water spontaneously ruptured with DS at 32 weeks and it put me into labor.
With S, it was 39 weeks exactly when labor began (without waters breaking first).

With my first my water broke at 37+2. I'm 39+4 right now and no baby yet!

I was induced at 39 weeks 3 days due to high blood pressure, however it was my choice. I could have held out waiting for natural. I"m glad I made my choice because she was already 8 lbs 10 ozs, I can't imagine how big she would have been if I waited another 1-2 weeks.

37 weeks - very small chance of uterine rupture with labor and the OB wouldn't risk it (malpractice?) so we did amnio at 36 weeks and then delivery at 37 weeks.
Different doc with #2 and she did c/s at 39 weeks.

My baby was breeched so we knew delivery would by C-section. We decided on scheduling the C-section before 40 weeks. Great C-section experience, incision area healed nicely, and recovery was better than I expected.
@LuLu Mom: cool, my baby was 8.10 also!

I believe that there is a five week window in which it's perfectly normal to go into labor naturally. In my case #1 was following a membrane sweep at 38 wks, #2 labor began at 39 wks.

Water broke at 38+5 (I may or may not have done a few things to cause this...), contractions started early the next day and DD was born at exactly 39 weeks after 45 hours of labor.

Emergency c-section at 34 weeks exactly for preeclampsia + baby was distressed.
ETA: Babies don't require much...as long as you have a few outfits, some bottles (just in case) and somewhere for them to sleep, that's all you really need! We all go crazy trying to get everything "ready" for them, but they usually come when they are ready

My water broke at 37+5. However my doctor wanted to induce me at 39 weeks due to high blood pressure. I'm happy that I went into labor naturally before then. I was not looking forward to being induced!

My water broke at 37w0d with my first. At my appointment earlier that day she said I was no where near ready and I had a baby less than 24 hours later.

Induced at 37 weeks due to low amniotic fluid levels and DS having IUGR. Placenta was deteriorating faster than its normal 40 week lifespan and began having calcium build up.

Scheduled c section at 39 weeks due to size - DS was 10 lbs 9 oz and I didn't have GD. The earliest my hospital will induce or do a scheduled c section is 39 weeks (besides medical issues). He wasn't coming anyway. I can't imagine how much bigger he would have been.

My water broke at 33 weeks, 6 days. They tried to stop labor for 24 hours, it didn't work, LO born at exactly 34 weeks.

My water broke at 33 weeks, I didnt have any contactions until the doctor did a cervical check, which triggered the labor. they tried to stop it but werent able to, he was born 2 hours later.

I voted induced but it wasn't really early. Based on LMP she was born right at 39 weeks. Based on u/s due date, she was only born 3 days early. We induced early due to LGA.

Scheduled csection at 39 weeks due to previous csection 15 months earlier.

Began naturally at 37w6d - since it was a little early I thought it was just indigestion at first.

First pregnancies usually go to 40-42 weeks but I went at 38.5. Other people with my small build in my profession (we stand for 8 hours, high stress) went much earlier, and other people I dance with at the same intensity that have the same build also went as early as me.

Went into labor on my own somewhere around 37-38 weeks. No reason in particular.

I guess technically I was induced but I had been in early labor for about 3 days at 38 weeks & was given pitocin after we got a positive on an overnight (in the hospital) urine protein test. I probably could have refused but everyone was so excited & my doctor said that it's better to get the baby out ASAP when you test positive for pre-E so I didn't argue. I kinda wish I had. But DD arrived 4 hours after my water broke & everything went smoothly so no real complaints. I could have been in labor for weeks so I guess I got off easy!

Induced at 38 w 5 d because of low amniotic fluid. LO was 8 lb 12 oz, so I can't imagine how big she would have been if we had gone another couple of weeks.

Twin pregnancy, which is considered term at 37 weeks. There is no medical benefit to keeping them in longer, and there is a higher risk of fetal distress. I was induced at 38w3d.

My water broke at exactly 38 weeks. I went to work on Monday, left a HUGE pile of stuff to get to the next day.... and my water broke on it's own Tuesday morning (38 weeks). Contractions started about an hour later. By the time I got back to work 14 weeks later, the stuff on my desk had been taken care of by my co-workers

I was induced at exactly 37 weeks due to preeclampsia. I'm a major control freak and sort of liked being able to schedule when I was going to give birth. I had a very positive induction experience and labor only lasted less than 9 hours from the start of the pitocin till my little dude was born.

I was induced at 36 weeks due to pre-e and the beginnings of HELLP syndrome.
We were totally not ready, but it all worked out! My mom and sister came up and bought tiny clothes for my 5lb baby and opened up all the boxes of gear from my shower and set our whole house up. Thank goodness for them

Baby born 38 + 5 after being induced due to reduced fetal movements plus she wasn't growing any more.

My water broke at 38w4d (was scheduled for C-section 3 days later at 39 weeks due to previous uterine surgery). Had him a few hours later via C-section.

Induced due to reduced placental blood flow at 38 4/7, ended up being an emergency c-section due to profound fetal distress.
