Is there an age you will stop at or keep doing it forever?

We give them gifts now but we'll probably give them cash or a check at least until they're adults (we only have 4 on this side). D's aunt still sends him (and me!) birthday checks every year!

18 will probably be the last one. After that she's not a kid anymore and I won't feel obligated.
She's already 15, so just a couple more years!

I'm betting we will do it forever. At this point we don't have very many nieces/nephews so it wouldn't be a big deal to keep up with it.

Probably until about 18. Same as I did to my younger brother. We'll always give to them for christmas though.

@Mamaof2: 18 or college? I dunno, I haven't thought all that hard about it yet.

I started giving them the gift of time when they turned 5. What that means is that I take them out, just the two of us, and do whatever they want to do. Usually it's lunch and a movie but sometimes it's a sleepover or once we did build a bear. That being said, 2 of my nieces moved out of state so it's harder to that with them so I've been buying them gifts. In my family, the gifts stopped when we turned 13. I hadn't really thought about when I will stop them.

Probably until they have their own kids
I have 12, so I limit gifts to $10 an occasion ($10 for birthday, $10 for christmas).

Wait. Why wouldn't I or why would I ever stop?
Yes and no I never plan to stop. Maybe when they're like 23 and graduating from college?
I love those kids like my own and never want to stop spoiling them! I can't wait to take my niece on her first birthday shopping spree.
she's turning 11 this year... Too soon?

Eh, we'll see. I'm not super close to my niece or nephew but I could totally see myself sending them some birthday mulah in college.
I also only have the one niece and one nephew, so there's that.

@locavore_mama: When my niece was 11 she was ALL ABOUT shopping! (She's 13 now).

Probably forever. We only have one nephew and will probably only end up with one more niece/nephew so why not?

Maybe forever? I only have one nephew though and don't anticipate many more. I still get red envelopes/gifts from my aunts!

I probably won't have very many, so maybe until 21? Uses they end up being naughty then I might cut them off sooner.
pineapple / 12566 posts
I guess it will depend. My husband gifts the nephews on his side. My own brother is going to have a baby next month and I plan on spoiling her for a long time.
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
Probably as long as they have birthday parties.
Christmas forever though.

My nephew is 15 months old right now, so I can't envision stopping. As he gets older, we will probably do more contributions to his savings account instead of toys though.
I still get my brother birthday presents, and he's about to turn 32. I don't understand why there has to be a stopping point.

My aunt still gives me gifts for my birthday, christmas and now mother's day! I guess it's because i am also her god daughter and she had two sons?
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
God kids are my equivalent. Will gift bday and Christmas until HS. Likely at 11 or 12 the gifts will become cash or gift cards. Will gift at HS and college graduation.

Probably high school, or I will give them a GC for gas/clothes/ect.
nectarine / 2878 posts
We only have 1 niece and are super close with her, so I don't really know if we will stop giving her gifts for special occasions.
honeydew / 7916 posts
We'll see. So far we only have one nephew and may only ever have one more at the most. Plus our aunts/uncles still gift us for very special occasions and we're in our 30s!

Right now, I do bday gifts for the ones that live in town because I'm close to my sister and we see them for their birthday. (I'm not close to my brother and they live very far away.) But I'm close to one of my aunts and she still gives me birthday gifts, so I don't really see stopping ever. Some of my best birthday memories are of my aunt taking us to see musicals or plays, so I'd like to do something similar when my nephews are older.
I do Easter baskets and Christmas presents for all the nieces and nephews, but that will stop when they graduate high school.

I'm sure at least until 18, then probably we will still give gifts for Christmas and major milestones (graduation, marriage, etc). I still get a birthday card from my aunts and uncle and it's always so nice.
