Do you give your LO water and how old did you start?
What kind of water do you give when you just started? How about now?
At M's 4month the doc said it's not necessary to give her water yet even though we can. So we're holding off probably till at least 6months. I'm tempted to give boiled filtered water at that point! A little much? We don't really have harsh water around here...

We did bottled nursery water in a sippy cup around 6 months and just started offering it at meal times.

We didn't start giving Lo water until she was .. 6+ months old? She didn't drink much until she was 11 months old.
I usually give her bottled, but she drinks filtered water and tap water during baths

We're a pretty anti-bottled water household, so DD just drinks tap water. If we didn't have good water, I'd filter it, but as it is, she drinks it straight from the faucet!

I'm not planning to give LO water till he's 12 months... and at that point we'll live somewhere else. It will either be tap or filtered tap depending on where we live.

I was planning on asking my ped at his 6 month checkup if it was ok to give him water. He loves drinking it in the shower and gets so dehydrated when we've been outside. Anytime we go out, he wants to chug a full meal, even if he just ate. I'm assuming we'll just give him Brita water.

We drink filtered tap at home and so does my LO. I will give him bottled when we're at my in-law's house because I don't trust their water quality.

I haven't had to give water yet, but i would give brita water. There was a news article this past year that talked about a worsening cavity rate among kids because of bottled water.

you should give tap water (filtered or boiled) because it has fluoride. apparently kids have more problems with cavities these days because parents give bottled water.

We drink filtered tap water at home. Tap water actually has fluoride which will help with their teeth grow strong and with less problems later in life.

@regberadaisy: Additonally, tap water is heavily regulated by the government and must meet certain testing standards on a daily basis. Bottled water is not regulated as heavily, so there are no guarantees that bottled water is cleaner than tap water (in fact, in most instances, it isn't). (Edited for clarification)

LO is 7 months so I've been giving her little sips of water here and there. We have been doing both bottled and filtered tap from the fridge, but our city doesn't add fluoride to our water. I wonder if it's necessary to look for bottled nursery water with added fluoride?

@Honeybee: interesting. I'd always assumed this bottled water is for consumer consumption that it's regulated by something similar to FDA?

@regberadaisy: They should tell you if you google your hometown and fluoride.
@MungBean: If your city or town doesn't add fluoride to it's water you can get a RX from your ped/dentist.

@MungBean: Our city also doesn't add flouride. Ask your dentist, but ours said not worry about it at this point (DD is 2). They said as DD gets older, we can start using flouridated toothpaste (she has to be able to spit it out instead of swallowing it) and flouride supplements/treatments. We'll probably start when she's around 3.
@regberadaisy: (ETA: Sorry there actually are some regulations, but it's not nearly as extensive as the EPA's monitoring. The thresholds for bottled water regulations are very low while tap water regulations are very high. I don't want to give the impression that it's totally unregulated, just not the same types/standards of regulations as tap water, and not by the same agencies.)

The ped just told us today that we could start giving LO water, though I think we'll wait a while. I think we'll use water specifically for infants/toddlers when we do. DC water isn't exactly the best.

@regberadaisy: Sorry, I realized it seemed like I was saying it's not at all regulated, and that's not true. It is regulated, but not as strictly as tap water, and the FDA allows higher levels of bacteria than than the EPA. That's what I get for multi-tasking and trying to write a paper and a board post at the same time!
I think it's all the same? I really don't know if some bottled water companies are safer, or have a better track record than others. Most bottled water companies simply filter and bottle city/municipal tap water, though. So it's not actually a different product from your regular tap water; it's just been pre-filtered and repackaged for convenience. For example, Dasani water is Detroit city water that has gone through a filtering process.

I'm not really planning on doing water in a cup until closer to a year.
However, we do regular tap water with her formula.

Heard jersey puts no fluoride in water, so use baby bottled water... For formula...

Where I live, they do not use chlorine to purify the water, so we were comfortable using tap water from the beginning, in formula or in the bottle when we had some really bad bouts of hiccups.

@regberadaisy: I believe Dasani and Aquafina are just filtered water, not spring water. They would contain fluoride, but still considerably less than tap water.

I give my baby the same water that I use for mixing formula. She has only had water a few times and she usually drinks less than an oz. We use gerber pure water

@Honeybee: Us too. Tap water is actually far more regulated than bottled, so that's what we do!

We use regular tap with her formula, and honestly, I never even thought about it. When she's ok'd to drink water, tap it will be. I've never even heard of special baby-water before to be honest! Our tap water is clean and tasty; which is more than most of the world can say.

Brita water from our tap around 5ish months. He also gets water from a straw when we go to restaurants (trap water in the straw with my finger and let go when it gets to the baby's mouth).

we gave LO water after starting solids. he used to drink Nursery Water but now drinks Gerber Pure.

We started DD #2 on filtered tap water in the sippy at around 6 months. She only took sips here and there. Really started drinking a few oz at around 10 months. Love the Zero Water filter system, btw... Good alternative to Brita, IMO.
