...did you have soreness/pain postpartum?
A month out & my urethra still really hurts when I pee! It's just when I use those muscles - starting to pee, and stopping. I had a catheter for about 4.5 hours while I had my epidural. I feel like I shouldn't still be hurting.
Did you have pain post-catheter? If so, how long did it last?

I had a catheter and have had no problems. You may want to mention it to your doc.

I had one but didn't feel anything weird postpartum. Maybe they used like a huge gauge on you?

Same as the other ladies ... I had one but no pain (at least not from that! Ha) postpartum

I had one during my c-section and I definitely felt some weirdness for a few weeks after. I noticed it when I really had to pee and it came out fast. It wasn't really super painful so I waited and it did go away.

i had one but didnt hurt. years ago, after surgery i had a cathereter and it hurt for a couple days after, im thinking they used one that was to big on me then.

@JerricaBenton: The amount or flow of pee isn't any different for me, it's just painful. Like pretty painful. I really don't like using the bathroom.

@photojane: hmm I think you have to call your dr if it hurts like that. It could just be a more serious irritation than I had though. I definitely felt discomfort while peeing for a few weeks though so I don't think it automatically means something is wrong. Hope it feels better soon !

I had one for 24 hours or so, since I was on an iv. No pain after. Sounds like you may have an infection?

@photojane: Have you talked to your doctor? You could have developed a UTI from having a catheter. That's what happens to me. I had one during the epi and then because I couldn't pee on my own after they took it out and before they move me to the recovery room, I had an unmedicated straight cath! I think that is the one that did me in. Anyway what you are describing sounds like the pain I had with the UTI. OB/GYN gave me antibiotics and ran some bloodwork to confirm. Hope you feel better!

@anbanan15: Yeah... I thought as much! I was really hoping it wasn't a UTI. I've had several, and this feels different, but it could definitely be an infection. Usually with a UTI I have a burning pain while peeing, and then it hurts all the time until I get an antibiotic. This is like a sore muscle type pain, and doesn't hurt while I'm peeing or otherwise.. just when I start and end. I have no idea, but I'm nervous to go to the doctor!!

I had a catheter for a little over 6 hours during labor and I didn't have any issues PP. I think I'd call too

@photojane: ugh! I'm sorry! I would see the doctor though for sure. I cannot remember all the details of when it hurt because it was nearly 2 years ago and I tried hard to block that pain memory, but I remember it hurt worse than my tear and all the lady parts healing! Don't be neverous about the doctor! I promise you will feel better after seeing them!

I'd blocked it from memory but reading this brought it all back. Yes, I had pain a few days after and it turned out to be a UTI. It went away quickly after I started antibiotics. I just went to one of those urgent care places so I could get the drugs ASAP, and they made sure to give me meds that were safe for breastfeeding (if that's a concern). Pain when stopping peeing is classic UTI. Get it checked out!

@photojane: OMG! I totally FORGOT I even had a catheter in during labor, but your post made me realize that's why I totally HURT down there at the urethra! I hurts to move, sit, stings, just all around so uncomfortable! I'm going to have to ask my Doc about it too if it doesn't go away. But I don't think I have any kind of pain like a UTI. It's more sore or irritated I guess, but I didn't even realize why this past week!

I had one and I was sore (even during times when I wasn't peeing) for over a month. It felt like there was something up in there. It sucked but my OB said it was from everything being stretched, the catheter, muscles being weak etc.

I would check with the doc.
I had a cath during labor, then got straight cathed a few times during my hospital stay, and then went home with a foley for another few days....so a LOT of action there, and didn't really have any discomfort afterward.
Eta...I had multiple nurses tell me that some women need physical therapy for their bladder post delivery! So it may not be infection, but you may still want to ask.

@photojane: oh man, I had so much pain afterwards. When I called about it after 6 weeks, they said I most likely had some scratches from it and it just takes a while to heal. Hope you get relief soon!

I had mine for over 24 hours too and it was probably the second worst part of the entire recovery process for me...it was definitely painful/uncomfortable for several weeks...but it was gone after a month for sure. Definitely call your doc!
