I have 2 Jack Russells and if they could sense I was pregnant they sure didn't show it. Maybe because their breed is so hyper. I'm being induced tomorrow so I don't know how they will be with the baby, but that is just something we will get through. I have read that before the baby comes it is important to limit affection given to pets to reduce feelings of jealousy (which is super sad to me) and so it is not such a drastic change when the baby comes. Oh, and I hear you on the whining. My dogs do it constantly over every little thing.

@oliviavolivia this is good to hear. I have a 5 year old Aussie. I think she is going to be in love with her tiny human. She has been laying her head and paws on my stomach on her own. My other pup is 10 and he does his own thing.

@mrskmm I can not offer expirence yet, but I'm not worried about my dogs. They are great with kids, listen and have good boundaries. I plan on having someone bring a blanket to them before baby comes home.

I have a little deaf collie cross and I am 26 weeks. She is very gentle and loving but very energetic too. She is currently outside even though it is bedtime and refusing to come in! She doesn't seem to have a clue that i am pregnant (despite getting kicked by him when snuggling)! Our plan is to include her in cuddles just the same after tge baby is born so she doesnt get left out, she will be happy snuggling up whilst i am nursing. We are also getting a play pen to put the baby and any toys inside so I never have to leave them alone, not worth the risk even with a little softie dog. Hopefully it will all work out, if not we will just have to keep experimenting.

I got pregnant a month after we got our dog so she was too young for us to notice anything. One thing we were surprised by is that she didn't seem surprised to see a baby in the house at all. Typically with kids and babies she would go crazy jumping on them and kissing them but when it was our baby she acted like it was perfectly normal. She's been really gentle and patient with him, I really think dogs have instincts with kids. My son is only 11 months old and they're already such good friends, they always play. It's precious.

Our dogs ignore the baby. She loves them. One day, they'll come around. I wasn't worried at all, but I think I had this vision of us all living happily in the home together ... fire in the fireplace. Ha. Once she was born, I feel like our dogs got a demotion. I still love them so much, I just notice they annoy me a lot more than they used to. We don't walk them nearly as often, but we did move into a home with a big backyard for them. I have major guilt over this issue, but at the end of the day, I'm just happy that we have no issues ... Our younger dog sounds a lot like yours. We have to watch out for her stepping on the baby, as she's very much in her own, needy world.

@MrsKMM: I got a dog and the next month I got pregnant. My baby puppy is still my first born he is so spoiled to this day. He went through some changes when my son came home but once we got into the swing of things my baby puppy was teally good. He always wants to be a part of whatever we are doing. And about 80% of the time he is with us. But he has a gf so his gf owner would come and pick him up and take him to the dog park and play and when I was finally able to workout we run to the park or to the beach and my husband meets us with the car or walks himself and meets us at the park. Now that my son is running around (14months) they are buddies and my son loves to go and sit with him wherever he is in the house it is really cute. Yes sometimes his tail wacks my son and he will bump him accidentally but u could tell he feels really bad. And it isnt like super hard. Im really happy with how my furbaby transitioned with ds. All we did was bring his beanie home before my son and let him sleep with it.

We're not as precious as @BABYMATS because our kids are major rough-housers. This picture is kind of sweet but quickly transitioned into wrestling, their daily activity.

I love all these family dogs! I've always had a soft spot for black dogs, I had a really sweet one when I was a kid and I've heard a few times they are less likely to be adopted.

@BabyMats: that picture is amazing. I love when babies sit in that little "nook"!

I have a dog that's almost 9. I think she knew when I first got pregnant, and now with 6 weeks left she is extra attached to me. I'm not too nervous; she has been around babies and she sniffs them then loose interest. She is great with toddlers never aggressive even if they do rude things to her! I think our game plan is just to reinforce her status as the lowest member of the pack and that she is not above the little baby lol!

My dog was older 8 yrs and I was worried. She has always been super attached to me.

I had my mom bring home the babys hat and put in on the dogs bed so she could smell the baby.

Also when I came home DH had the baby so I could greet the dog alone.

We put DS on the floor in his car seat and my dog walked over, sniffed, and walked away - she could care less!!!

In the early years she would come sit by me when she heard the kids cry and would follow me to their room but as time went by she just started ignoring them - ha!

My kids are now 3.5 and 6 and sweet pup is 13.5 - she is an aussie and yes, she herds them She is also protective of them and barks at us when we are playing around - she hates it when we high five the kids! The kids love her and the feeling is mutual

I've got a 5.5 year old lab mix who is super hyper (everyone - vet included - thinks she is like 2 years old still). I'm currently pregnant but I'm not worried about it at all. She's always been good around kids and around our good friends' infant. So I'm sure she'll be just fine with our own baby.

Bodie was barely 3 months when I found out I was pregnant. He knew before I did - the day I took a test he was very calm (he is so hyper) and just laid with me while I waited to hear from the doctor. He knew something was going on. When I went into labor my parents took him. When we brought the baby home, we spent the first night without our dog. The next day DH picked him up, took him to the dog park to get him all nice and tired and then he brought him to the house. Bodie definitely knew something was up - he entered the house cautiously but excitedly. We introduced him to his new brother and we made it so that he "found" DS, so that Bodie will know that he belongs here. Bodie has accepted DS into the pack.

He is a very hyper and anxious dog. He loves DS and always tries to lick his feet and face (which we're not allowing) whenever we come home or when the baby starts crying. It's quite sweet, though and we always tell him "thank you" for looking out for DS while we gently push him away from his face. We have some behavior issues since he's used to being the center of attention but when he does feel jealous he acts out towards us, not DS. He's a royal pain in the ass sometimes but he has a heart of gold.

I also forgot to mention that we worked with a behaviorist and have developed some relaxing techniques which we are using. Also, we gave my parents DS hat and blanket for the dog to sniff and get used to the scent. I also played some baby sounds such as crying from my phone so that he got used to the noise.
