If you had a dog before you had a baby...

@MK0180: I did that too (played crying babies on a CD I bought) for my dog - but didn't want to admit it!

@Mamaof2: lol I was curious at first b/c I read that people had CDs of baby sounds (!) so I looked on itunes and saw them! It helped, too!

We have a very spoiled Pekinese/poodle mix, and we were worried she would get jealous. But in reality she just kind of ignored LO. Now that LO is old enough and LOVES Finley, she tries to avoid her even more but it doesn't work. She's always been really good with her, even when getting her hair pulled she just has the "get away from me" attitude now that she's 4 years old.

@MrsKMM: I knew our dog woul dbe ok, since he has always been fine around kids. I will say that getting someone to take your dog for the first week or two is a REALLY good idea. It sucks to deal with a dogs needs when you just really need/want to focus on your newborn.

@MrsKMM: I also have a 100 lb lab named Bear! He's a chocolate lab though I'm just about 9 weeks now (I think we're both June 2015 right??) I'm concerned about this too! Our Bear is going to be 2 next week, but then we also have a smaller 55 lb blue heeler mix who will be 1 in December, so a little smaller, but much more hyper.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences! He hasn't really been around little kids, just because there are none amongst our friends and family. He's been around kids around age 5 & been totally fine, but he also wasn't sharing me with them. My ILs adore him (MIL declared herself a memere when we got him lol) so I think they would love to help. I might look into baby sounds, just to see how he reacts!

@mrsbrewer: So funny! & I just saw on the June board that you're also 26! I'll be 27 in January. So many similarities haha

@mrsbrewer: cute! I like Bear's white stripe! I confess, I have a weakness for labs

@MrsKMM: Oh I am TOTALLY a sucker for labs! Actually my 2 have the same parents (just different litters), the mom was a chocolate lab and the dad was a blue heeler. Obviously with my 2 they each stuck to the one breed.

My husband and I are considering paying for 1-2 sessions with a personal trainer once the time gets a little closer to see what exactly whey recommend and see what we can do in the weeks leading up. Because needless to see, these 2 are spoiled rotten.

@mrsbrewer: that's awesome! And it seems like quite a few people have looked into a trainer. Might be the way to go. This guy is used to plopping down on me wherever, and he sleeps in our bed... Which I regret doing now!

@MrsKMM: Same here, my 2 sleep in bed with us too (it's pretty crammed ) We are working on getting them out, but we're pretty much failing miserably...

@mrsbrewer: we have always slept with the bedroom door closed, but now that we are homeowners we are starting to leave it open at night. A few times recently he has gotten off the bed in the night and moved to the couch, so I'm hoping this is the beginning of a transition! When he was a puppy growing 10 lbs/month we actually bought a bigger bed!

@leialou: yay! I love seeing pics on pinterest of dogs and babies & hope we can pull that off!

we have two miniature dachshunds, the Leeo (the boy) became very over protective of me during my pregnancy. Zailey (our girl) could have cared less, as the world has always revolved around her. LOL...I was very worried about Leeo once the baby was born because he has always been a mama's boy. but what would you know they have become the best of buds...Zailey is interested, not bothered, but I think will come around once Lukas can play ball with her. We have even cause Leeo sleeping in Lukas' room in the middle of the night to protect him.
