If you had a failed Clomid round and did not take any meds the following month, what was your cycle like?
I'm CD 2 coming off Clomid and am just wondering what to expect for this cycle.

Mine was normal ... my ovulation date varies between 15-18 usually and it was in there. I conceived #1 on the third round of clomid. With #2 we failed 3-4 cycles and then had a surprise success the month we stopped treatment. So I don't think it will mess you up, hopefully.

After my failed clomid cycle I went right to a femera cycle but after that failed and I had cysts on my ovary and had to be unmedicated for a cycle I ovulated at CD 16 which for me is fantastic before meds the earliest I ever ovulated was CD 20 and often it was CD 25-30. Hopefully it works out similarly for you.

@bhbee: My natural ovulation is really late so hopefully it will keep it within a more normal time frame! Thanks for your reply

@snarkybiochemist: I'm still trying to decide if I want to try another medicated cycle. I would switch to Femara instead of Clomid but ugh I have no idea!!
I think I have a baseline ultrasound soon since I'm CD 2 so hopefully I can figure it out before then.

@mrskansas: Clomid thinned my lining enough that my doctor wanted me to switch. She really prefers Femera for PCOS patients but since its off label most insurances want to see a failed clomid cycle first.

@snarkybiochemist: I had a slow response to Clomid and ended up with a chemical so I think they are hoping I respond better to Femara? I don't know the reasoning but if there are less side effects I'm all for it!

@mrskansas: So many less side effects. The first time I had a little bit of light-headedness but I was trying to make Christmas dinner and probably wasn't drinking enough water. Other than that no side effects, ovulated right at day 14

@snarkybiochemist: I didn't ovulate until CD 20/21 with Clomid so I would love to ovulate earlier.
What dose were you on?
nectarine / 2180 posts
@mrskansas: First femera cycle I was on 5mg and produced 4 follicles second femera cycle I was on 2.5mg and produced 1 follicle

@snarkybiochemist: yikes 4! I remember that.
Well I may be coming to you again for advice if we go with the Femara. Thank you for the wisdom

@mrskansas: It's been a while since I did a Clomid but I was totally normal on the next cycle - normal bleeding and cycle timeline.
Edited to add that none of my Clomid cycles were monitored, nor were the ones after.

I had a failed clomid cycle in February. I only had one "mature" follicle, and it was only 15mm on cd 16. I ovulate really late. Anyways, the next cycle (last month) I still ovulated really late, but had a 8 day luetal phase. Normally, mine is 10-11 days long.

@snarkybiochemist: When you had 4 follicles did you have any cramping or extra ovary "twinges"?
I had a lot of cramping on Clomid and I just finished the Femara and have felt nothing.
nectarine / 2180 posts
@mrskansas: I had a decent amount of bloating and general uncomfortableness with the 4 follicles I don't remember twinges though until 2 of them turned into corpus luteum cysts

@snarkybiochemist: I'm only CD 8 so I guess I may not feel anything until the follicle(s) gets bigger. This is when I wish I was being monitored so I knew what was going on in there!
I'm definitely bloated but I read that's a common side effect of Femara.

@mrskansas: yea monitoring did give me peace of mind over exactly what was happening

@snarkybiochemist: What cycle day did they have you come in for a follicle check?
nectarine / 2180 posts
@mrskansas: 10-12 for the initial and then some cycles I went back a few days later before triggering if the follicle wasn't where they wanted it. This past cycle I had an ultrasound on CD10 and then CD 13 and then I triggered on that same day and had the IUI the next.

@snarkybiochemist: They did say I could come in if I really wanted to... I think I'll give it until CD 14 and if I don't have a positive OPK by then I'll see if they can get me in. I'd like to know if I don't respond well that way they can up my dosage.

@mrskansas: sounds like a smart plan. I wouldn't want an extra ultrasound if I didn't need it either, no matter how much peace of mind it provides.
nectarine / 2813 posts
@snarkybiochemist: Yeah I don't want to waste any time or money. When I went in for my baseline I waited for almost an hour for a 2 min ultrasound.

@snarkybiochemist: Nope. My 2 year old likes to mess with my sleep too much.

@mrskansas: makes sense
good luck getting through this cycle
