I would say with real contractions there was more ebb and flow that coincided with my stomach tightening. Before I'd get sharp pain or discomfort or sometimes shooting pain. With my first my labor started out very slowly and had times when the contractions were close together and times where they spread out. But I was pretty sure they were real because the pain kept increasing as the day went on (and then there were the other signs like losing the MP and water breaking, which finally said OK this is real)

Bump! I've lost my mucus plug, and on Wednesday I was a 3 and 90% effaced. These feel like period cramps, and they're 2 1/2-3 minutes apart. But I don't feel like I "know"-these have been this kind of pain for a week, which is different than the BH I had for two weeks before that. Anyone experience something similar?

@LovelyPlum: how long are they lasting? You'll know! I'd say it's probably the start of labor though

@HLK208: 60-90 seconds, but some are way more intense than others. My back is also getting tight, which is new. I just really don't want to get my hopes up again, but I hope it is!! I guess I should just hang out for a bit and see? So confused!

@LovelyPlum: I didn't know it was real labor until I went into triage to get my blood pressure checked and E had stopped moving regularly- they told me they were keeping me for an induction, then I went into real labor shortly after.
Basically, I still had no idea until I hit contractions I couldn't talk through. It was sooooo much easier with my first son when my water broke, that was pretty obvious!
Good luck hope this is it!!!

@LovelyPlum: that's a long time! FX!! My early labor contractions were only about 45 seconds long and consistently 8 minutes apart (I only knew it was early labor because I was being monitored while waiting to be induced)

@lemondrop: that is so frustrating, but I am really glad to hear that someone else didn't know right away. I am convinced that these are not BH, but I'm just not sure how long they will stay. I was convinced on Thursday, but then they went away after 6 hours. I had a total meltdown I called, so I guess we will see. Thanks
@twodoghouse: thank you!!

@LovelyPlum: You have my FULL sympathies here!!!
My last week was miserable, being decently dilated, feeling like crap, and random uncomfortable contractions that start and stop, then nothing. Super discouraging!! I cried so much my last two days of being pregnant.
You would think that this being my second go round that I would know real from false labor- NOPE! It was a totally different experience from my first. Just know that we are all rooting for you and you really can't stay pregnant forever. You will have one of the loves of your life in your arms soon! Hopefully since this is taking you a long time it will mean a fast and easier labor for you!

@LovelyPlum: Good luck!! I hope this is it! Can't offer any advice because I never went into labor. I was induced before they had to send me to the looney bin.

Irritable uterus. On our way home. Frustrated doesnt even begin to describe it. Talking induction tomorrow AM.

@LovelyPlum: Oh my gosh..."irritable uterus" is such an injustice. I hope you can get some sleep and you get your induction soon!

@spaniellove: makes me crazy...I literally contracted until they put me on the monitors and started again less than 5 minutes after we left. Sigh.
On the plus side, this girl was happy to have her Mama home tonight. It is hard to be too mad when you come home to such excited wiggles

@HLK208: thanks lady you may be following for awhile lol I have a bet with DH that this one will come on DD's due date (4/12) out of sheer irony that it will be almost as long as DD made us wait too

I never was certain. I'd talked myself into thinking that it was just braxton hicks because I didn't want to show up in false labour with our hospital being a 1.5 hour drive away and my BH had been so bad in the last trimester.
The pain of real labour was consistent. I could time in between contractions. The best way I can describe it is like period cramps mixed with poo-pain as if you'd been holding one in for a whole week.

Oh yeah, I had contractions from like 30 weeks on. However, I knew it was true labor because they were time-able (went from nothing to 4 minutes apart, and longer). Also they felt differently than the ones I'd been having--like they felt more like diarrhea cramps (TMI?), if that makes sense. Plus, I had several bowel movements, and remembered hearing that this could be a sign you're in labor.
