Did you prepare for it?

Mine wasn't unmedicated--I actually had 2 epidurals--but they both failed, and I spent significantly more time trying to get through my contractions without any pain medication than I did with a working epidural.

I had always assumed I'd end up with an epidural and didn't really prepare myself for not having one. I think I did fairly well when I didn't have it, although I still had IVs in and couldn't get off of the bed (I didn't really want to). I was glad when it was replaced, though, so I could get a little bit of rest before I started pushing.

Did you have a planned unmedicated birth or did circumstances force it?
