Just curious to see what the average number of IUIs are before success. We just had our 2nd so I'm hoping #2 is it for us!

I can't vote because I haven't had any successful ones yet but so far I had 2 complete IUIs. I, also, had 2 cancelled IUIs because I had enlarged follicles.
Good thread. I would love to see some more votes.

I'm jumping on reviving this thread, I did two clomid/ovidrel IUIs and the second was BFP but chemical. but I can't blame the chemical on the IUI, that's a separate issue.
we'll be doing our third IUI next month if this non-IUI cycle doesn't work.

I've heard that some doctors won't do more than 4 IUI's because your chances of conceiving goes down if the previous 4 have not worked.

@CatchAFallingStar: Yeah, with femera.
Oh, an update. Completed my third IUI and it was unsuccessful.
I'm done waiting after 3 cancelled cycles and 3 completed but IUI cycles and now heading into IVF land. Keep thinking... I'm off to bigger and better things now. (Let's just ignore the money part.)

@bluestriped bee: Did they not recommend injectables with your IUIs? Sorry it didn't work.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@CatchAFallingStar: Other than the trigger shot? Nope. My bloodwork and ultrasounds seemed normal, so I guess that's why they didn't feel the need to add injectible hormones into my process.

@CatchAFallingStar: normally injectibles are reserved for low responders (or people who are expected to be low responders) because if you already ovulate normally on your own it can give you too many mature follicles.
ETA: to answer the original post, I had 4 unsuccessful IUIs before I moved on to IVF. I think normally they don't suggest more than 3-4. However, a friend of a friend ended up doing 8 (!) because she and her wife were using donor sperm, so they knew it wasn't a male factor issue, and their insurance wouldn't cover IVF, so they just kept going with IUIs. She did injectibles and ended up with twins.

@Shutterbug: Oh, OK. Makes sense. I just figured IUI with injectables would be the next step if Clomid/Femara and IUI didn't work. But, I realize it can cause multiples, which isn't always a good thing.

I voted 2 because that was what it took for LO, but I got a BFP after the 3rd one initially, but it was a partial molar pregnancy and we took some time off before we tried again and got a BFP on the second cycle.

Moving onto IVF, IUIs (3 completed) were not successful for us.

@bluestriped bee: Did you use injectable meds with your IUIs? So sorry they didn't work for you.

@bluestriped bee: Ha. NEVERMIND!! I see I already asked you this above. Sorry about that.

Bumping this.
I'm on my TWW of IUI #5.
I had 3 failed IUIs at one clinic (unexplained diagnosis). I switched clinics and got diagnosed (woohoo!) and they said I could try IUIs now that I'm on meds for PCOS and DOR. I paid for 3 IUIs this second round. If these don't work, I'm off to IVF.

@bluestriped bee: I've got all my fingers and toes crossed for you! Are you going to test out the trigger or wait?
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@ShootingStar: Thanks! You know I've never tested out the trigger before. I could see where it's at. It's 5 DPO. Though if it's positive, it might make me think that i'm really pregnant. I usually like to wait til after 10 DPO to test.
coconut / 8472 posts
@bluestriped bee: Oh, I wouldn't start at 10DPO. 5 is early enough that you can be sure it's the trigger. It will either slowly fade (and hopefully come back!) or get stronger. If you wait until 10, it's a toss up as to whether it's the trigger or you really have a BFP. You'd need to continue testing for a few more days to see if it sticks around.
When I got my sticky pregnancy I started testing at 5DPO. At first they looked like normal positives and then at 8 and 9 DPO I was getting positives, but only outside the 10 minute window. I wasn't sure if it was still the trigger or not. Then at 10DPO I got a true positive within the window.

My 2nd one, post laparoscopy and medicated on Follistim/low dose hcG/trigger, was a success. My husband's sample # was really high. It could have been the surgery, the higher dose of meds, the good sample number, or maybe just pure luck!
