Would you have actually bought a $1,000 crib?
I don't think I could. Even if I was "rich" and had more than enough money for a very fine crib, I wouldn't never be able to shell out that much. I might get one of the nicer $500-$700 ones, then a really nice organic mattress and organic bedding.
How about you? Would you shell it out if you had it?

I just love Pottery Barn cribs. I got mine on sale-the Kendall Lo-Fixed Gate and LOVE IT. It wasn't too bad for price and converts to toddler bed later on.

If I had the money, I wouldn't spend that much on her crib. We have a cheaper one and it works fine!

I came into this thread just to say that if I had $1,000 to spend on a crib, I'd take the money and run. Our daughter doesn't sleep in her crib (but luckily we spent barely any money on it) and our other daughter sleeps in a Pack N Play

+1 on the PB cribs! I was in love with the PB Larkin sleigh crib, an it was $1000. I thought it was ridiculous - yes. But that's how awesome this crib was. It took us 9 months to get pregnant with this baby, and I had stalked and pinned the Larkin to death. Well wouldn't you know, I took my eye off it for a month or so, and PB suddenly discontinued it and sold all of them. GAH! I still look for them on craigslist, but they always have bite marks or something on them -lol. The only think more ridiculous than paying $1000 for a crib, is paying $1000 for a crib before you are pregnant - which I actually probably would have done if I knew they were discontinuing it. Le sigh:(
The good news about eying $1000 cribs? When you look at the baby stores and the total top of the line crib is $600, it seems like a steal to you! I actually fell in love with the Davenport set at Buy Buy Baby, and it's $600 and DH is so excited to buy it because it seems loads cheaper than the PB crib that I have been whining about forever:)

No, I wouldn't spend that much on a crib. As long as it is safe, a crib is a crib. There are very few things that I would spend more money on than we do already if we were wealthy.

I was gifted a hand-me-down crib that was $1200 and while I am really grateful and it is a beautiful crib, there is no way I would have spent that on a crib. I would rather buy a less expensive one and put the rest towards furniture that would be used for more than a few years like a dresser or bed.

Well I guess it depends what you mean by if you could afford $1,000 crib. Could I afford it now? Sure, we could do it if we wanted to/needed to. I too was in loooooooove with the Larkin Sleigh Crib at Pottery Barn Kids and couldn't even get myself to pay $700 for it when it went on sale. I still think about that crib and sigh! If I were loaded and weren't trying to save for a new, bigger house while having a baby (and all those other expenses that come along with it), then yeah sure I would spend the money.

If money wasn't an issue, maybe. I would probably just pick out whatever crib I liked without looking at prices. I don't really like super ornate cribs, so it probably wouldn't be over $1,000. But there are some really pretty cribs out there!

We decided against a crib because all the cribs+mattress+bedding (x2) would have cost about that much. Didn't want to spend a lot on something we'd only use for a few years.

I don't know. If I did, I'd convert it to a bench after LO was done with it so I'd get more then a couple of years out of it. Hoping to do that anyway.

@chrispygal: I am still pained that PB discontinued the Larkin crib. And I didn't even know they put it on sale for $700 I thought they just discontinued it. That happened during the time that I was so frustrated with TTC and CPs that I couldn't look at baby stuff...So I totally missed it! Waaah! I wanted it SO bad! The one they replaced it with doesn't come close!

@jholler25: I so agree! The Larkin was just amazing! I don't know if you have any PB Outlets near you, but it may be worth calling around and finding if they have them there. Wishful thinking! haha. We ended up with a convertible crib that's just ok. Definitely more practical, but not as magical as the Larkin. *sigh*

Erm, no. Our crib was a whopping $100 and we've got it newly washed and painted for baby #2's arrival in two weeks.

It has said "No Longer Available" since I got pregnant and I haven't looked in like a month- just been searching Craigslist...I guess they brought it back?!? Holy moly - DH thought he was in the clear on this crib but this changes everything! Thank you!!!

Nope, I view cribs as a short-lived item that might not even be used. Those nice, expensive cribs are drool worthy and comes with a lifetime warranty, but I have no plans to have my children inherit it or anything. I'd even have problems reusing it for our next baby because of storage.
I'd def use the rest of the money for other things.

Even if money was no object, I wouldn't spend $1000 on a crib. I just don't think it is worthwhile to blow that kind of money on such a short-term piece of furniture.

Nope, I would still get the $275 crib that we have. Ours is a convertible crib, but still not a piece of furniture I would spend much more on.
I would spend the rest on a real bed for us instead of just having the mattress on a metal frame.

We decided that the crib would be one of our nursery splurges. The Oeuf crib that we want costs around $700, so not quite $1000, but still quite expensive. We really wanted to make sure that the crib is made of sustainable, non-toxic, and durable materials b/c we're sure that our baby will probably be chewing on the crib railings. Plus we'll also use the crib again if we have another child.

Nope. I have serious buyers remorse, I'd beat myself up about it.
What makes me sick about these expensive cribs is tge way people treat them. I stalked craigslist for a Larkin and Kendall while pregnant and I cannot tell you how many of them were chewed up. Seriously chewed up like little beavers were let loose in them. And they still wanted $400 for them!!! If I was going to buy an expensive crib, I wouldvuy the teething protector bar

Have you checked out the "Marlowe" crib from restoration hardware? It is very similar to the Larkin.
My husband and I also LOVED the Larkin crib. We had seen it even before we got pregnant and absolutely would had made the purchase if it was still available. *baby due in mid December*
Now, I think we will go ahead and do the Marlowe crib from RH. It is next to identical and I am equally in love with it as the Larkin!

Our budget was as cheap as possible while still being safe, so we spent about $100 for our current crib. If we had a budget for a $1000 crib, then we'd probably have spent the full amount, yes.
