oh gosh no, I was so beyond sore I could barely move...having to go home that soon and do everything on my own would have been torture.

Yes! I ended my hospital stay early. I gave birth Sunday and left Monday morning. It was the earliest they would discharge me.

good God! no!! being able to drop the baby off in the nursery to get some sleep for the first 3 days was SO key for us!!!! Recovering from childbirth, especially if you've had a hard delivery, is no joke when there's a newborn needing you every 20 minutes.

My birth center discharges you at 6 hours, but if you would like to stay the night, you can pay a fee (like a hotel) and they have an assistant stay all night to help you as needed and she cooks you breakfast in bed in the morning before you leave.

I was beyond ready to leave because I had an induction due to PIH tht didn't work and had been in the hospital for a week! I don't think I would want to leave after 5 hours. I was still trying to learn how to feed her and she hadnt even had her first dirty diaper yet! Too soon!

I'd like to give birth at a birth center, so I'll probably get discharged early.

I think my sister left about 7 hours after giving birth... That was in England and they're very keen on getting you up and home there...

@Coco Bee: I think if I had those options I'd be a little more comfortable, but now with MsMinis story, I'd be paranoid again! Maybe I'd stay one day instead of the mandatory 2 in my hospital.

Nope... I'd want to be there at least 24 hours to make sure I'm okay and the baby's okay.

The birth centre I want to go to, will discharge you between 5 and 24 hours (up to you) but they also have a midwife come see you at home for the first 3 days I'm pretty sure ill be keen to get home.

@MsMini: happened to a friend of mine, twice! last time was over a week after her son was born... so scary

I only have one LO, so only one birth experience to speak from, but my blood pressure was out of control, they wouldn't discharge me until 5 days afterwards.

I would probably stay 12 hours to make sure all is well.
48 hours was too much. Going to try to get home as soon as possible after we have baby 2.

I had a c-section and I wasn't ready to go beyond three days.... But that's a completely different bag of apples. I have to say, after the first baby I was soooo nervous to go home, so even with a vaginal birth I don't think I could leave after just five hours.... Plus I liked feeling taken care of in the hospital, like if something weird or freaky happened with the baby I was in the right place.

@Coco Bee: Usually PP hemorrhage is <24 hours after delivery, but in rare instances it can happen later (esp if there is retained placental fragments of something). My girlfriend insisted on being discharged before bedtime because she couldn't sleep in the hospital, and she ended up back for a few days because she bled for so long before the ambulance got her back to the hospital she needed multiple transfusions.

Yes!!! Then again I never wanted to leave home to begin with. Lol

Oh I would love to be discharged just hours after giving birth! We have the option of going home 4 hrs after birth and I think I will use it next time. I was too nervous with my first LO to go home that early, aside from the fact that I had some complications from the epidural and had to stay in for an additional 24 hrs anyway. I was going stir crazy though and just wanted to get home with my LO. We don't do rooming in here so it's not like I was getting any additional sleep, and I didn't need any painkillers, so there was absolutely no benefit to being in hospital.
