We've always said that we would prefer a boy first (and that's what we got). I'm the oldest and I always thought it would be cool to have a big brother

Boy for the same reason at @Running Elley. I have a big brother and I loved it!

a boy first, for the big brother reasons said above, and also because that's exactly what I have and love it. I wouldn't switch them around for anything.

I guess boy-- I know DH really wants one and I don't want him to feel disappointed when LO comes out. Plus I like the idea of the protective big brother (meanwhile my brother teased me to tears for a lot of my childhood-- thanks brother!)

Girl. Though honestly it didn't really matter. I'm kind of shocked and dismayed at how many say boy. In this day and age, it shouldn't matter.

A girl cause now the pressure is off! I never thought I'd have a girl!

I grew up in a family of girls (5 of us all together), and I always wanted a boy first. Too much girl drama for me, and I need a break to experience what it's like being around a boy. It's so different and a lot of fun.

My generation in my family is literally all female. I had 2 sisters, 3 step sisters and all my cousins were female. I REALLY want boys lol!!

@yin: Wow we sound similar! We were 6 girls in our house! ... and we shared one bathroom! D:

I'd want a girl first, but the hubby wants a son first. Hubby won. Ha!

Girl first and that's what I got. I liked the idea of an older brother, but all my friends' older brothers were horrible to them, so it didn't make me want a boy first. I took care of my little brother and gave him fashion advice and bailed him out of so much stuff. Can't imagine any other way..

I want a girl so badly! Mr. Hedgies family is NOTHING but boys with the exception of his mother. Even she has 2 brothers. I will love my child no matter what but I am crossing my fingers for a girl. We wont know until mid April though! It is killing me!

@sorrycharlie: ditto! I've always wanted a little girl and now that I have one, the pressure is off, although I'd ideally like to have all girls! Even if I end up with a boy(s) after this, at least I have my little girl.

i was the oldest, and like PP, i always wondered what it'd be like to have a big brother, so i said boy first. BUT, i really want a girl, so if we had a girl first, definitely would have made me happy knowing i got my girl. fingers crossed for #2!

Girl. I have an older brother and sister and my sister was way more nurturing and helpful. My brother could care less that I existed when I was born.
Lo loves playing with dolls, changing their diapers, wiping their tushy, giving bottles, etc. and she's only 18 months. I hope this is a sign she'll be an awesome helpful big sister some day!

We're having a girl first but DH *reaaaalllly* wanted a boy first. But everyone keeps telling me girls are easier to have first

We wanted a girl first, but got an awesome boy instead. If we get lucky on LO #2 being a girl, it'll be like my brother and I, big brother, little sister.

It's easier for a girl to wear boy hand-me-downs than it is for a boy to wear girl's stuff. Besides, I like boys better

I really though I wanted a boy first so my future lo's could have a big brother to look out for them, but I'm sooooo happy I had a girl!!!

Boy that's how I grew up and I loved having a bg brother. I still look up to him, even though we're 22 and 24 lol

I always wanted a big brother so I'd say boy first for that reason. But I'd love a girl first because of the fun girly clothes! Ultimate answer: boy.

Boy. Everyone in my family has girls first. I'd like to see how it would be different to have a boy first.

I don't care, but I think boy because we have a wicked awesome boy name and I will be stressed thinking we will n ever get to use it!

I want ten fingers and ten toes!
But if it were really up to me and the baby were healthy either way, I would choose boy for two reasons. First, DH and I are both the youngest and there are already 12 grandchildren between our two families, but his parents don't have a grandson yet. So we would finally have our chance to be the first at something. Second, I feel like a boy would be an easier transition into becoming a parent since they are less expensive.
