How do you handle diaper and clothing changes? I've been lucky until now - even when my LO was at his fussiest, he never minded having his diaper changed or putting on clothes. Now, at 7.5 months, he is happy, but super active and obsessed with crawling. Whenever we put him down he immediately rolls to his tummy and tries to crawl away, so I feel like I have to wrestle him to get anything done. I've mostly figured out dressing him while he's in a crawling position, but it is really hard to get his diaper on straight! Any tips for making this easier? Is it just normal at his age?

Sing a song or count. I still do it at every diaper change at 11 months. And hand him something to play with, like the wipes case.

Distraction is key! LO is a squirmer so as she got more mobile this became an issue. We have something hanging up near the changing pad that I can move, which sometimes works, plus singing and silly faces, plus sometimes a pacifier. If all else fails, I pin her down with one arm so I can get the diaper on right!

Ugh, giving her something doesn't always work these days. One day she flipped over and ran/crawled away with the change pad still attached to her back!!! If i am in a rush i will turn on the tv (bad, i know) and other times i will just pin her down and then give her something. It has gotten bad lately at 11 months.

We face this at every diaper change too - so frustrating! I give C something to chew on or play with (bottle of aquaphor, closed, or a diaper or a rattle or something), and then do the fastest diaper change I can. Once it's on imperfectly, I let him play, and then I stand him up straight and fix it as best I can. I am hoping this is just a phase...blahhh

I keep a special toy in the drawer with our diapers that she only sees during changes. I make sure to wipe it down regularly and switch it out if she seems to be getting bored by it. A light weight hand held mirror is one of her favorites and usually buys me enough time to change and dress her.

It's very normal. We either sing or give toys.... Or both

I usually give my LO a toy or just keep rolling her back over. She's only 6.5 months though and can't crawl yet. I'm sure it'll get worse!

I just hate diaper/clothe changes now... No matter what I do to distract her she doesn't care, It's like trying to change/dress an eel or something!

I change my LO on the floor and literally have to put one leg over him to keep him from rolling away. It's the only thing that will keep him in place!

Oh man, it's good to know that DD isn't the only wiggler. I sing, plead, giver her something to play with, but it doesn't always work.

I give them stuff they prolly shouldn't play w so that's why they love it....doesn't hold them for long so u have to hurry up.... Like the house phone... Their comb.... The snot sucker...I have to keep them from putting in their mouths and w the snot sucker, I have it so they hold the snot sucking end.... Diapers work well for a bit, but I hate when they try to put in their mouths.

@bree72: @sera_87: @MamaCate: @Weagle: thanks so much for suggesting songs and toys! I have been trying this combination for the past few diaper changes and it does seem to take his mind off of crawling a bit. I think counting will be great too when he's a little older.

@eeh: The special toy is a great idea. I'm definitely going to try that if/when singing + regular toy stops working.
@yellowbird: It probably will get worse, sorry to say. This started for us when he got really good at crawling a couple of weeks ago.
@cyndistar3: yes, an eel, that is it exactly! So much writhing and twisting.
@lisa1783: I may be doing this soon if the changing pad on the dresser starts to seem too risky with so much wiggling! How old is your LO?
@Crumbs: I know, I'm sorry we all have to deal with this but it's reassuring to have some company, at least.
@tequiero21: haha, love the forbidden toy approach! I know I could keep him entertained with one of our phones, although he would definitely try to put it in his mouth. He is obsessed with them and the iPad. How many LOs do you have? I can barely handle one with this kind of nonsense!
