Which one do you have and do you like it?
I have my eyes on the Sundvik; or the Gonatt for storage.

We have the Sundvik in white and love how versatile and streamlined it looks!
ETA: there are so many more cribs available than when we were buying--the storage option on some of the new ones is awesome!

@maybebaby: yeah, that's why I love the look of the Sundvik but now I'm tempted by the storage!

@snowjewelz: We made a crib skirt and just have an under the bed rollie storage thing under there.

@hotchildinthecity: gray brown is my dreeeeeeam, that's the one we want and i think we're going to get the gray brown hemnes dresser.
good to know you guys like the quality of the ikea cribs!

@loki: My room when I was living w/ my parents were all Ikea and everything held up very well so I never doubt Ikea's quality (just on certain things that aren't real wood).
@maybebaby: Ohh smart!

We have the Sundvik and the smaller Hemnes dresser, both in grey/brown. We use the top of the dresser as a changing table too.

We have the Sundvik in dark brown and I *love* it. We paired it with the Hemnes daybed in dark brown, which sadly they no longer carry.
@loki: The quality is very good (ours has held up really well in 19 months despite a few teething marks). IKEA has to follow the environmental standards of every country they sell in - most of which have MUCH stricter standards than the US - so you know you are getting a high-quality, low-chemical product.

Hensvik
and yes safety and environmental requirements in Sweden are *insane* compared to the US. In a good way, when you're buying a non-american product

@septca: wow didn't know/think of that. that's awesome. ok i feel so much better about our decision now! yay!

We got the white Sundvik crib, which allowed us to splurge on a nice mattress.
It is very sturdy, and even held LO and me until she was 2 years old.

@snowjewelz: @PermaStudent: I know! Unfortunately our cats really like it too

@loki: I'm just planning on getting an Ikea mattress since I'm there to get the crib...

@loki: http://www.naturaworld.com/products/classic-crib-mattress/ We purchased the classic ii from a local mattress shop. Looking back, i probably should've just bought any old mattress!

We have a Sundvik for DD and bought a second for DD#2, due in Nov! Good quality and I like that it blocks out some light and distractions.
DH and I have the Hemnes dresser in gray-brown and I love the way it looks, but just FYI the finish can scratch off really easily, which isn't a huge deal on a white piece of furniture (easy to touch up) but I don't know if there's a good way to cover up scratches on the gray-brown. Not a big deal for a crib b/c they will get chewed up no matter what, but could be a bummer on a long-term piece of furniture.

Sniglair! We really like it. I bought a different mattress, but it fits just fine.

We have a Sundvik in white and I love it. We got an Ikea mattress as well and a year on we're still really happy with it.

@LovelyPlum: @CRGmama: Oooh, do you have pictures? I've seen this one only online and like the way it looks. I think one review said the wood is unfinished and a bit rough--do you think that's true?
apricot / 324 posts
Here's a picture of it in my sons room (sorry about the quilt blocking some of it). The wood is maybe a little bit rougher than a lacquered surface but it's not like you'll get a splinter or anything. It's never bothered me or my baby!

@CRGmama: love that crib and quilt!
we got the hensvik -- I love it, but I think I like yours better!

Why is the Sundvik $20 more than the Gulliver? They look really similar. Do people prefer the solid-panel ends on the Sundvik that much more?
Also curious why the Sniglar is SO much cheaper than both of those. It looks cute so it seems like a great money-saver.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@PawPrints: I really do prefer the look of the solid-panel ends on the Sundvik! I also think this is the more popular style b/c it's always out of stock at my Ikea

@snowjewelz: I think the solid panel looks really nice! But.... do you feel like it "blocks" the view to the baby at all?
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@LaughLines: Not for us b/c we're putting the crib by the wall opposite of the door. I like it purely for aesthetics lol. I guess I think the open ones look a bit cagey? It's the closest way I can describe how I feel haha.

@loki: thank you! my mom made it! We picked fabrics together, it's such a treasure

@CRGmama: it's amazing, i love the colours. my mom is a quilter and i know my LO will be swimming in quilts haha. i'm going to show her this one and tell her it's a must have

@PawPrints: My parents gifted us the Gulliver. My dad said he felt like the Gulliver was a bit more sturdy than the Sniglar. I don't know since I wasn't there to choose it, but we are very happy with the Gulliver so far.

For those of you with the Sundvik crib, is there space underneath for storage? I have an adult Hemnes bed and it's too low to fit a plastic under bed storage bin, only an extra extra large ziploc bag.
clementine / 812 posts
@LindsayInNY: I had to lift the crib up and slide the box underneath because the bottoms of the sides are too low to slide under. Note: This is with the mattress on the highest setting maybe someone else can speak to the mattress on the low setting.
Edit: It's a fairly deep under the bed box though too. I'll try to snag you a measurement tomorrow!
grape / 98 posts
@LindsayInNY: I can slide the low plastic bins under our crib, with the mattress on the lowest setting. The ones with wheels are useless though because you can't slide it under from the head or foot of the crib, has to be done from the sides.
bananas / 9229 posts
@Mrs. Coral: That's not terribly bad. We could store things we don't frequently need under there if it's not the easiest to get to. Sounds similar to our bed with the bottoms of the sides being lower.
@Suzanne44: Ahh, good to know! No wheels! The fact that it even fits is such a huge plus though!
