We transitioned about 2 months before DS2 arrived. It went smoothly, and he didn't have any issues letting DS2 use his crib.

This is good to know since LO is still in his crib. We have to rearrange his room or move to switch up. At the time of going to a toddler bed, we're planning on night potty training too on the advice of our former daycare owner.

I was due in September with LO2 and transitioned DD to twin bed in June. We made a big deal out of it; let her nap in our room and made the transition so that when she got up we took her in, she was super excited.

@autumnlove: I transitioned LO1 to her big girl bed three months before LO2 arrived to give plenty of time to adjust. She was 23 months.

We transitioned L from crib to floor (Queen) bed at 14-15ish months. She did it perfectly! She only rolled off the bed maybe 3 times before she learned to avoid the edge. We gave her 4 months before baby came.

She went to a twin bed around 22 months so we could use the crib for #2.

But cribs are also pretty cheap these days. We love our basic Graco crib. So if the transition is too tough, it may be worth it to just grab a $150 crib.

We were going to transition a couple of months before LO2 gets here, so she would have been 26 or 27 months. But we ended up transitioning her when her bedroom set went on sale at PB for Black Friday weekend haha. That decided it for us. I think it got delivered a week after her 2nd bday and she has been a total rockstar with it. And it's a queen!

@.twist.: she still rolled quite a bit, but we put her in a low bed (mattress on a box spring on the floor) with bed rails on the open sides. We were very careful to lower a bed rail every time we got her up and never let her see us (or her) go over the rail. So, she (presumably) thinks that the rail HAS to be down for her to get out of bed. She has never fallen out. She did get more still after we gave her a toddler pillow at 18 months or so. I honestly think earlier was better for our family.

We switched 6 months before my due date so that lo1 wouldn't associate it with being his bed anymore. He was 18 months. The nursery is on the other side of the wall from our room, so baby will be going directly into the crib in there, so we wanted lots of time.

Before, I wanted him to have time to adjust to it before baby arrived, and I didn't want to deal with transitioning him to a bed while dealing with the sleep exhaustion newborns tend to bring. I bought him a twin bed and got a mesh rail for the side of it. It went great and was definitely the best decision for our family/LO. By the time little brother was born and started using the crib he didn't seem to think of it as his bed anymore at all.
