How did you wean? I did not ever think I would nurse my almost 2 year old this long. On a regular work day it is only in the morning, when I get home she demands it, and then at night...but I am totally ready to stop--she isn't though. I've been nursing for almost 4 years between both children!

My older DS nursed until just after turning 2. At that point he was only nursing before his nap and was mostly just playing and not really drinking. I started limiting the amount of time he could have it and as soon as he started playing around he was done. One day I just brought up his milk instead and sat and read him books while he drank instead. He was mad for the first couple times but quickly got over it. With his morning session, I just got up out of bed and gave him milk instead. Nighttime he stopped himself because once DS2 was born he only wanted DH to put him to bed.

2.5 years and I have no idea when it will end! He nurses first thing in the morning, before his nap, before bed, and sometimes one or two more times, for comfort or whatever.

@matador84: my lo is 2.5 and I'm 24 weeks pregnant. I've dried up so he's just suckling at this point. He only wants it before nap & bedtime. Nap will be the last to go. I had bedtime done by snuggling and giving water before bed but we regressed a bit since he got sick.

i nursed until 2 years and 2 months and weaned after a month of TTC. At that point, we had dropped all sessions except bedtime. The session that went before that was morning and it was easy to drop as i just had to distract with something else and not offer. Night time was a tad harder, but i did it by having DH do bedtime more often, so there were several consecutive nights where he wasn't getting nursed at all. And then finally i took the plunge and didn't offer and when he went for it, i kept distracting him. It was hard the first 2 - 3 nights i did this, then he stopped trying.

I nursed my LO to her 3rd birthday. She would have kept going but I was done so we told her milkies were gone when she turned 3. We talked about it for a few weeks leading up to it and it went smoothly.

She weaned herself at 26 months. Just stopped asking for it. We had stopped nursing to sleep a year or so before, it would have been harder otherwise. She began asking again maybe three weeks later, which was right after we moved into our new house. I let her resume nursing about once a day for a couple weeks, but then decided we should be done.we talked about it a little, and she never got upset when I told her no after that.

My DD nursed until just after her second birthday. At that point, she was down to just the bedtime session. We talked about it with her for a few days, and then DH took over the bedtime routine for a while. After some fussing for the first couple of days, she was fine. When she knew it wasn't an option anymore, she stopped asking. I honestly thought it would be much harder than it was because she really loved to nurse.

I weaned my first at about 25 months because I was pregnant and had zero interest in tandem nursing. We were only nursing morning and night at that point so it was pretty painless to wean. But I thought for sure it would be hard!
DD2 is 16m and no where near ready to self wean....

My DD nursed to 3y4m. At 2y10m we were ttc, so I cut her back to wake up and before bed, within weeks she dropped before bed, so she was only nursing at wake ups. At 3y we talked more and more about how milkies (her word) are for babies and little kids, and how she was becoming a big girl, most of the talk was driven by her, as I never wanted to shame her. The next two months nursing became every other day, every third day, trying 2-3 times a day, 1x a week...till I told her milked were all gone. She still loves to lay on my chest and throw a hand down my shirt, and kiss milkies...but all done! I NEVER thought she'd wean.
