What website did you use? I listed ours for rent on CL today and on trulia. The trulia ad isn't working (of course!) and I feel like CL is so much for anyone to weed through, our listing will get swallowed up!
Looking for another site to list on!

We listed our condo on Craigslist at night and by the next morning had over 20 emails about it. Granted it included utilities ( part of HOA) so that really helped us.

We used a realtor that we trusted to find "good" tenants! Not sure about those sites, never done it ourselves! Good luck!

@PrincessBaby: my dad is a house flipper (and a professional real estate agent) and his agency lists everything they sell on:
changingstreets.com <<<LOVE. Just go see it
Do you have an agent? Because I think changingstreets only allows agencies to list, not home owners, directly.
and on CL.
CL gets a ton of hits, but you'll get your weirdos too.
Also, there are companies that you pay that will rent your home for you (they take care of all marketing) and they will get like a very small percentage of the rent...but, honestly, my dad finds it so much easier. They literally deal with everything. You just get your check in the mail after they've taken their %. You never have to deal with the tenants or marketing your home. They fix things and all that..
My dad usually sells his homes so he can get commission and move on...but he had a home that wouldn't sell, but it rented through the renting company and its doing great.

Sounds weird, but HOT PADS! I loved using hotpads.com it was easy to see houses by geography

We have had success with CraigsList. We've had three great tenants and basically zero issues! We just did credit checks and background checks w their applications.

@TurtleDoves: I did not know that a property mgmt company would handle marketing it too! We're probably going to have to get a property mgmt company to handle the house/renters/repairs bc we'll be in SC and this house is staying in SoFlo, lol. Thank you! I'm going to look into that!!! CL scares me with weirdos and scammers!

CL here too! It was really tough this year/season to rent out, so I went with a ton of other sites: Rent.com, HotPads.com, Zillow, Uloop. But in the end, the best prospects and ultimate tenant came from CL still (and it's free!)

@PrincessBaby: its really awesome because literally the house's basement flooded and my dad is like (fuuuuuuck!) but they covered it! Because they use their % to basically cover damages to the house. They find the tenants and they give them the background & credit checks. They also show them around and they do all of the contract/lease signing. So, literally you can chill in SC and get a check in the mail. When you want to sell or move back, you let them know, they notify the tenants and your good. My dad's company got the tenants to sign 2-year contracts, so you won't have to deal with tenant turn around every 12m.
Find one and give them a call? It may be worth it. Imagine stifling through freaks on CL....yeah, not fun. If you're lucky, you'll find great people but many times it's not the serious folks who are on CL.

We used a realtor who also managed the property. They also helped us sell it when we were ready.

We put on our CL ad that they had to pass a background and credit check so I think that eliminated weirdos. We actually only let 4 people come and look at the unit based on their emails. Then went with a married couple, thinking they would be more stable and not have wild parties.

@PrincessBaby: SOs family uses Craigslist to rent out their Coral Springs condos and gets sooooo many flakes. I would totally use an agency!
They just had to pay to evict non paying tenants and were left with a bunch of tenants.

We used CL to find ours, but went through friends to find renters for our house.

Ours was cross-posted on both CL and a local newspaper (not the city paper, but a local neighborhood one). CL is HORRIBLE, but there's not much we could do-had to check it. Since this one also appeared somewhere else, we felt more comfortable calling to inquire about it! Good luck!

Oh, sorry, we're renters...I didn't make that clear in my other post. CL is pretty awful on this side, too. Lots of people put up fake posts, and it's super discouraging also when the only real landlords then have huge huge waiting lists. We're grad students, and we had a horrible time trying to find a place when we moved from out of town last summer. I think it took us four months. We did look through some realtors as well, and that was nice because there was some sense that both sides were more legitimate.

We've gotten two renters from CL. We do a background check and so far so good.

We use a property management company which advertises in the local newpaper and on a local housing website. When we were looking for a rental during our recent relocation, I used Craigslist and a local classifieds site. Personally, Craigslist was almost entirely ads and scams. I think we only found one or two real properties on there, It was such a hassle, I stopped looking on there after a couple weeks, since it was just the same stuff reposted every day.
