I don't know about finding a new place temporarily, but when we moved, we were working full time. Maybe getting a storage unit for stuff you won't need for the short term might help. We packed up non-essential stuff first. Seasonal, booms, games, a ton of toys, offices, knickknacks, etc.

Can you put your stuff in a POD , ship it to new city and move in with family a month? Or a month by month rental with bare necessities?

That is super lame on their part We rent out my old house, and I couldn't FATHOM doing that to a family, especially one with small children!

The POD idea the PPs posted sounds like a great idea. Do you live in a city large enough where you could find a viable short term option?

Bummers!! I would totally be freaking out right now. Especially with a family. It happened to me once in college that our land lord gave me and my roommates 30 day notice because he wanted to move his son's family in the house we were renting. I only had a room worth of stuff so it was not a big deal. I can't imagine moving a whole house of stuff in 30 days now.

I was in a very similar situation when we were renting and bought our house, I had just ONE 8 month old and DH lives out of town. I had tons of friends help me packed and a lot of late nights up packing a room at a time.

Hire someone to pack and drive your stuff up the road!!! Surely someone would do it. I'm all about paying for convenience.

I would hire people. They are super fast and efficient. It's sort of amazing

We moved really quickly last year. We sold our house in late August, bought a new house, and moved in October. I would make an effort to pack 2-3 boxes a day while LO was napping. When DH got home from work, he'd do the same. It was really stressful, and if we had the money, we would have just paid the movers to pack everything.

We have also used a POD before, which was nice. You can get all of your stuff stored away while you're in between houses.

Oh gosh I've done that like 27 times. It takes me about five days to pack and clean a house at this point, though I've done it in less.

It's not my favorite part if our job. I hope you never have to get that good at packing.

That said I've never done it pregnant and with twin toddlers. I am so sorry you have to deal with this!

After freaking out and crying more than necessary I would probably angrily throw things in boxes and regret it later!

I like the idea of looking for a fully furnished short term rental and putting everything else in a pod so you only move it once. Can anyone help you watch the kids for a weekend so you can focus on packing?

At this point I am just as likely to say sell it all as I am to say pack and move it. Seriously I think it would be easier I buy most of it over again.

I second PODS. We used them for our first move. They will store your stuff for a nominal fee. You can put stuff into the POD on your own schedule. DH was really happy with them.

Seriously, this is your best solution. We put everything in them, including shop equipment. (Well secured, of course, but they are great.)

Hire movers. We just moved this weekend. They packed everything on Thursday and moved everything on Friday. With 2 LOs, there is no way we could have done the packing ourselves without having spent a month doing it during all our spare time.

argh, so sorry you have to deal with this, although we all know you will handle it like a champ. as others have mentioned, i'd outsource as much as possible. maybe pack up all the stuff you won't need in the next few months and put them in storage, so that you're left with as little as possible (although i know it's a logistical nightmare in itself to figure that stuff out).

the last 2 times we moved, we had the movers pack the kitchen stuff--i packed the big items like pots/pans/small appliances, but they did all the plates, cups, silverware, etc. and that was a big help.

We sort of were in that situation, we found out our rent was getting raised and ended up giving our notice just over 30 days before and then had to find a new place, move etc. With no family in the area and an almost 6 month old.

We survived by:
- Taking a few PTO days
- Utilizing the nanny for more hours
- Packing a few boxes a day

A professional mover was out of our budget. Also we moved right into our new place. I would recommend a POD (or a storage unit if you can't afford a POD, they're ridiculously expensive) and stay at an extended stay hotel until it's time to move. My twinner had to do that between selling her house and moving into their new house (actually they were building a new house, but had so many issues with the builders they terminated the contract while at the motel, and then found a new-to-them house to move into. Talk about stress!)

It was amazing to me how much getting someone to take E out of the house helped us be productive. I hope that's an option for you! We probably spent more on the nanny than the moving truck (we saved all our boxes from our move from IN to FL so didn't have to buy those) and it was worth every cent.

I thought some more and could you offer your landlord more money to stay in place? It would be cost savings to you (less movers/storage fees) and way less stress too!!
