I don't.

J is a night owl so it probably would be hard just based on his personality. But it would be impossible.
As it is, I pick him up by 5, get home by 5:30, make dinner, finish by 6:30/7, give him a bath, read some books, get the lunches together for the next day, clothes for the next day, etc.
On a good night he's in bed by 8:30/9, but more often than not it's later.

And my DH works nights so my evenings are solo-parenting through the school year.

Following - my standard work hours are 9-6, and I don't usually get home until 6:45 or so, so something's gotta give when this LO comes along.

Yeah we don't either. I pick LO up at 5, dinner at 5:30 and on a good day he's in bed by 8:30

Well, I leave work early (4pm but I have an hour long commute) Tues and Weds and DH leaves a little early Thurs and Fri so we have E home by 5.30pm. She's a crap-napper so needs a super early bedtime - 6pm until very recently. We would get her home, give her some milk and get her into bed. It meant we had no time with her but to be fair she was so tired and grumpy we didn't mind that!

FYI - daycare does dinner. We give her a bit of porridge for supper but that's a new thing!

@raspberries: you should be ok, because lo will be able to sleep in. We have to leave the house by 6:45ish

@Meridian: I WAH now, but when I was a WOHM, I left the office no later than 5pm, which put me home at 5:15 (I would work after bedtime if needed). At that time my husband worked at home, so he'd pick up LO at 5pm and would also be home by 5:15. We'd immediately do dinner, play, bath, and bed by 6:30 or 7pm.

LO has high sleep needs and slept 12 hours a night as an infant. She would be a fussy mess if she wasn't in bed by 7pm, so we did what we had to do to make that happen.

As long as you don't have to be at work at 7am, it shouldn't be a problem! You can just have a later schedule overall, right?

I leave work, get LO and get home around 5:45-6 p.m. He goes to bed at 7 so we really just eat, hang out, play and take a bath for an hour before bed. I can't push it any later because he is really ready to go to bed at 7 and gets cranky if we make him late.

Daycare days are easy - I'm lucky I'm able to pick her up around 3:30/4 and we go right home to play, make supper, bath and in bed by 7.

My mom takes her one day a week though and those days are trickier. I take advantage of grandma care by staying later at work - usually 5:30. I then go pick her up, my mom has dinner ready for us and insists we stay. On those nights we eat at my moms, rush home, skip bath and put her right to bed - usually by 8.

I changed my schedule around to come in earlier so that I can leave earlier. If your DH can't get your LO til 6 or 7 maybe ask that your MIL feed LO dinner before he gets there so that he can start bedtime routine as soon as they get home?
