My son had reflux as a symptom of milk and soy intolerance. He never actually spit up he mostly just screamed constantly. We did zantac which worked for 3 weeks and prilosec for almost 6 months. Ultimately we didn't fix the issue until we fixed his diet.

He now has reflux symptoms at almost 3 years old. I suspect he is intolerant to something else right now. But he has that cough (the one your are describing) and occasionally vomits from it. Oh the joys.

M was on Nutramigen but after her MSPI was controlled I noticed that she would scream whenever she would reflux (either with or without spitting up). We put her on Zantac but that didn't help so we switched to Prilosec and the symptoms went away. I think she was off the Prilosec and doing fine without it by 9 months.

@Ash: I would say that your LO doesn't need meds unless he seems like he is in pain. (although I guess the cough makes it questionable).

@Ash: Take your LO to a Ped GI Specialist. Seriously. Most regular Peds just push Zantac . . . *augh*

My LO had reflux that ultimately was surgically corrected. Her only outward symptoms were occasional back arching/ popping on/off during feedings, and horrible sleep . . . she slept 45min-1hour 15 minutes tops, every night, before she would wake up to nurse briefly and then go back to sleep. I averaged 8-10 wakeups a night for 9 months. I wish I had seen a specialist sooner!!!

@Mrs. J: Zantac is so weight dependent . . . I would ask your Doc for Prilosec or Prevacid. It could really make a difference!

She would arch her back and was spitting up a ton. She was on Zantac 3 weeks till 6 months (or so). The spitting up didn't get better till 10.5 months.
