Mr. Bird's are not, but I've tried to encourage him to
we won't be piercing anything on our children even though I like the look of piercings (on men & women)

No. But I won't pierce my baby girl's ears either. No pierced ears for anyone until they are old enough to ask for it and take care of it themselves.

Is this like a tradition or something? I've nerve heard of this. I thought the only reason guys had pierced ears was because they got them when they were older.

For any kid, I'd wait until they ask for it to get it done. I don't like piercing babies, but I don't have an age limit for them to be if they're asking.
As far as what ears, I'll let them decide.

@T.H.O.U.: I wonder if its a regional thing, because I've never heard of it either. I can't name one pre teen boy with pierced ears.

@T.H.O.U.: I've never hear of this either.
@mrs. bird: what regions do you know that traditionally do this?

@T.H.O.U.: I don't think it's a tradition. My husband pierced his ears when he was a young teen. The holes have since closed due to a bad reaction with a pair of fake metal earrings when he was a late teen. We don't have any plans to pierce our son's ears before they express a desire to do so. I went to school with a little boy with pierced eats in 3rd grade. Nowadays I know many guys with both ears pierced.

I've never seen little boys have pierced ears! I've only seen it on teenagers and men. Do people do cartilage piercings anymore?

My DH has one ear pierced. He doesn't wear an earring anymore. I won't pierce any future boy's ears. I also wouldn't do it for a girl either.

I guess I meant more of doing it as a baby or toddler. I don't even think I would let a boy do it unless it became a big issue.

@Crystal: i live in an urban area in the northeast. it's certainly not as common as baby girls with pierced ears, but common enough that i don't think twice about seeing it.

@mrs. bird: interesting!
I've seen teenage + boys, but not usually young boys. And that's saying something, because I am near LA!

@mrs. bird: I've tried encouraging my husband too, but he would NEVER get piercings. I think a diamond stud in each ear would look so good! I won't be piercing DD's ears until she is old enough to ask and take care of them on her own.
