Olive doesn't brush her teeth very well, so I often have to do it for her. She is not a fan!! I wonder if I am scarring her for life. I hope not!
If your LO doesn't brush their teeth well, do you brush their teeth for them?

I have to do it for DD all the time because she'd just suck the toothpaste off or bite down on the brush without actually doing anything cleaning motion. I have had to make up a song for her.
I haven't tried the Elmo video that was posted on the boards the other day but maybe I should...

@Rubies: It kinda works on Olive! But she still doesn't do enough of a good job so I have to take over.

I have to brush both kids teerh. First they do it, then we follow up. DD doesn't mind but DS isn't a fan. Sometimes he'll let me brush if I give him the baby brush and let his brush his hair while I do his teeth.

My daughter won't open her mouth to let me brush her teeth so I wait until she starts crying (inevitable when she sees the toothbrush) and get in there and scrub.

@Rubies: @mrbee: I posted this on the other thread but here is what we've been doing that is working!
When my mom was here last week, she taught me a little trick for teeth brushing. (Yours may be a little young to get this though). She told D that if she brushed her teeth they would be shiny and bright. So bright just like the sun and we would have to put on our sunglasses. Sure enough she kinda opened her mouth and then my mom ran and put on her "sunnies" . D thought it was so funny (especially after lots of funny faces and squeeling from my mom) that she opened wide up and let me scrub those teeth until they are shiny.
Now every night I remind her we have to get them shiny. She thinks its hilarious when I squint my eyes and pretend that the shine from her teeth are burning my eyes. She opens right up and lets me brush.

@T.H.O.U.: Awesome!! I don't think Olive could understand all that though... how old is your LO again?

Our ped dentist recommended we help brush the kids' teeth til they are 7 years old! Our 5 year old is pretty good at it, but I just brush it for a bit after she does for good measure. I completely brush our 2 yo's teeth, of course. She loves the Elmo "brush your teeth" video.

@mrbee: She will be two next month. She may not really "get" it, but she thought it was really funny that when she opened her mouth up wide, we made all kinds of shrieks and faces.
