Our center has "jr preschool" (2s), "preschool" (3s), and "pre-K" (4s). The kids don't necessarily move up the day after they turn the next age though, some move up a bit earlier/later based on the actual opening available and readiness.

Our center has 2 preschool rooms, a younger preschool (2's), preschool (3's) and Pre-K (4's). The Pre-K (4's) classroom is definitely a different level than the preschool rooms. They move kids up when they are ready and space is available.

She will move as our school has one 2's classroom, two 3's and two 4's.

DD is 3.5, and they let her be in one of the 3's and 4's rooms at preschool this year (the other rooms are 2's and young 3's, and some of those kids still wear diapers). Most of the kids are 4.5, so yes, if she were to go back to the same school, she'd be in the same class (and I'd like it that way). However, free pre-K is an option here, so I'm hoping to get a place at one of our choice schools for that in the fall instead.

We're in Montessori so the classes are split up as follows:

1 year - 18 months: Infant Class
18 months - 3 years: Pre-Primary Class
3 years - 6 years: Primary Class

She'll be in a different class. Probably pre-k.

DD1 is 3 and in pre-k this year with a mixed ages class with kids up to 5, sometimes even 6 year olds because of redshirting, and if she were to stay at her current school, she would be in the same pre-k class next year. She's going to a different school next year for pre-k, that doesn't take kids until 4, so pre-k again, but a different school and class.

Our school has them in classes by the public school cutoff so they don't repeat unless the parent chooses to do an extra year. I like how they do that so they are with the same kids that will be in the same grade all the way through.

She's in a pre-k class this year but she's the youngest (she was 3 when it started while all her classmates were already 4 and some turning 5 soon after school started). It is very likely she will do pre-K again next year with the same teacher/class which I would love. She currently attends half days and next year she will do full days.

@erinpye: can't wait for our girls to be in the same class next year!!!

LO attended an afternoon program last year with a more mixed range of ages. He is in the same classroom this year with a different teacher in the 3/4's program.
