Venues here (play gym, trampoline park, museum, legoland, etc) usually have package options. The basic package always includes party room & games. Beyond that is where they get into food, cake and favors.
We usually opt to bring our own cake because we can customize flavor & decorations and it's around the same price if not cheaper.

We had her birthday at an art place this year. It included activities (face painting, crafts, play doh, etc), paper goods, favors, decorations, set up, clean up, everything except food, cake and candles for the cake.

We had their party at a park district facility with a little gym. So the first hour the kids played with mats, balls, cars, etc. The second hour was eating, cake, etc. I could have chosen to buy a basic package that would include cake, plates, napkins, cups, etc. in a theme (can't remember the options but there were a couple options like Princesses, cars, dinosaurs). I did not choose to do a package because I'm a control freak and wanted to choose my own theme. So I provided everything myself for that part.

@BelugaBean: that sounds so fun! My daughter will love something like that! Is this a kids centered art place?

@BelugaBean: that sounds similar what our venue is offering as far as activities and decor go. They have different packages so you can add on all sorts of stuff. Basic snacks are included, but I'm not yet sure what that entails, and I know cake is additional.
@twodoghouse: The place I'm looking at offers different themes, but I hadn't even thought about a theme yet!

@regberadaisy: Yes! It was a lot of fun! Plus it included all of that for $200 and was about an hour and a half. Less stress for me being pregnant this year. They had free time at the beginning to color, play with play doh and get their faces or hands painted. Then they did four crafts that they got to take home and then ate at the end. It's called Noah's Art. They're in a few different regions I think. All of the kids loved it.

@lamariniere: They served the food but didn't offer to provide it. We just brought crackers and fruit and then had cake. It ended at noon so we figured a snack was okay and it worked out great.

@BelugaBean: Ours will be mid-afternoon, so I'm not planning on anything substantial, just snacks and cake.

The venue includes all the activities (it's a kids gym) plates, utensils, cup, napkins, and simple decor. I am bringing a few decorations( only because we bought them to decorate his chair/kitchen area on his birthday and it's all Thomas themed which is his favorite), cupcakes, and juice (I could of paid for the highest package and received all these items, but it came with other things that I felt were useless at his age).

I've just decided on the venue for my son's first out of the home party and they provide everything, pizza, cake, decor, paper plates and the organized activities.

@lamariniere: We have my daughter's party this weekend. We rented out a party room that is affliated with the local pizza place. It has classic video games (25 cents a piece), a bounce house, jukebox, Wii/TV, ect. Nothing else is included, however we are allowed to bring in our own food/drinks but can get a discount on pizza from the place. We are brining snaky foods/drinks and then order pizza and bread from them. All décor we bring in.
