How do you have space for everything? Perhaps my living room is too small to do this with? Or have I just not thought of how to set up effectively?

We have a four seasons room right off the living room with storage cabinets and room for big things. Then we switch things in and out of baskets between the living room and four season room when we need variety. I've just given in to the living room being a disaster right now, though.

It was in the beginning, but nowt hat she's older we've moved it to her room. When it was in our (small) living room, I had 2 large baskets from Target that I stored the toys in and I kept them under the end tables. When we had company I just moved them to her room so it didn't' look as cluttered. We still have a toy grill and a tool bench now, and I store the cooking stuff in the grill and have a mini basket next to tool bench for the tools.

We haven't done this yet since our LO isn't born yet, but it's looking more and more like the living room is the only space possible. Our plan is tons and tons of storage for hiding stuff away (storage ottoman, bottom drawer of the TV stand, etc.), and basically trying to keep it all contained within one corner.

We have some toys in our finished basement but spend 99% of our time playing in the living room. We have 2 small bookcases that store all of his toys plus a train table, which takes up SO much room. I have to rotate his toys because not all of them would fit in our living room at once, plus he gets overwhelmed by having everything out.

Our living room is a really odd shape with this bizarre (previously useless) nook off to one side that we gated off to make "baby jail" lol. Although we end up pulling toys out into the rest of the room to play too. For storage though, basically we just have the giant ikea expedit shelving thing to put everything in.

I am planning to remove my rolling ottoman and push that by the tv console or something so we'll have a large empty space where I'll put her playmat down and her floor seat, jumperoo (later on), kick mat, etc... Then I have this free corner that I'm planning to get an ikea cart to put misc toys in.

We have a large toybox that holds almost everything sitting off to the side. Then a few standing toys and his walker tucked beside the couch out of the way. We have a playroom but had to move the floor mats from in there into the living room for now. Our dog ruined our rug and its all hardwood making floor time for T impossible in the living room. So until we get a new rug, the living room is our playroom! Our house is smallish but I feel like we can keep the toys manageable.

@Mae: I'm so envious of your play "nook"! That looks like the perfect spot!
Struggling with what to do. We have one square room which is our kitchen + dining room + living room. Every inch of space is pretty much used, and I don't know where LO will play. Right now he is happy laying on his play mat (he's 4.5 months), which doesn't take up much space. But not sure where to put him once he is more mobile and actually able to "play".

We have a large open space for kitchen/dining/living room. We basically stick everything in one corner that happens to be an indent behind our stairs. I got cute fabric bins that match our decor to throw loose toys in. We have also just pushed our coffee and end tables to one edge of the room out of the way now that she is mobile to give her more space to play.

Our living room looks like a bomb went off whenever my toddler is awake. Lol.
We have a 3x3' storage ottoman to contain things, and a 3x5 cube thing along the wall under the TV

We have an Ikea toy boy and a giant elephant-print toy bin in our living room against the wall and all of LO's smaller toys (puzzles, stuffed animals, dolls, megablox, etc) go in there. Her big toys stay out (ride on toy, walker, etc) unless we have guests; then, we stash the big things in her room.

You can kind of see the disaster that is our living room in this picture. We also have space between the love seat and a bookcase where we try to shove a lot of the toys when they aren't being used.

@Mae: We have an almost identical setup! Our living room is also L-shaped, and we have the exact same baby gate AND the same Ikea shelving unit (although it's along the right wall, not the rear wall)! The only difference is that our L has a window on the left side and an old couch across the back wall so we can hang out with the baby without sitting on the floor.

We have an open cube shelving unit lying horizontally on the floor, and keep LO's toys there. We have an open floorplan--kitchen/living room/dining nook are all one big space. LO's toys live all in the cubes, and we play in the living room mainly.

We have a large living room so I "sectioned" off an area for his toys. It's the shape/size of his foam play mat. Doesn't contain his toys, obviously, but it's where we put everything back at the end of the day so that our house isn't a complete tornado of toys.
At our old house, our living room was itty bitty so the living room would have been his playroom.

We have a long narrow living room, so basically on one side is the couch/TV and the other side is her play rug and toys. We have a 3x3 cube storage and a couple 3 sprouts toy boxes. We also keep some toys in the TV Stand since it has doors. Excuse the disaster area that is my living room! We are moving and stuff is *everywhere*

We have his actual play area in the corner of our family room. An IKEA unit, book display, his old crib mattress because he only likes tummy time on soft surfaces, and a foam mat. But there's an adjacent room that used to be an office (we moved to the dining room) that I set up as a playroom and now use as a toy junkyard basically.
