"What the hell?" There'd be words.

One of my goals in life is to never own a car, so I would definitely be upset.

I would be livid. I can't think of how he could do that and come out ahead and we can't afford another car. If we could afford it I would be annoyed or maybe mad but not how I would be now.

My dad did this a couple times... My mom was not thrilled!

@googly-eyes: walk and public transport...and once upon a time ago I biked everywhere. I've lived in cities since I left home for college and have never needed a car since. At this point, I'm pretty terrified of driving one.

I'd be pissed.

Major financial decisions/transactions are always joint decisions in our marriage, so I'd be pissed.

Mad mad mad. This is a topic we have specifically doscussed and both disagree with.

Depends if he bought it with HIS money or OUR money. I can't imagine him doing this without running it by me, though.

Oh I'd be PISSED. We don't make big financial decisions without both people agreeing.

I would be upset he didn't consult me first.

DH went to a classic car show a couple of years ago and came home with a very expensive lemon of a car...that has continued to cost us a lot of money. That being said, I wasn't upset because it was something he really wanted, we talked about it before hand, and we had the means to purchase and fix it up. It brings him a lot of joy now, so I'm glad he bought it.

Well mr. Bird told me yesterday he plans on buying a nearly 20 year old car, at first I was like WTF?! But it would mean he'd just buy it with his own cash & not add anything to our debt level with another car payment and since our mortgage will just be based on his income, it's better for us not to put any debt in his name right now. He did agree to replace it as soon as we have a LO because it doesn't have as many safety features as a newer car (does have airbags, that would have been a deal breaker for me). I'm not happy about it, but it has almost no miles on it and the one thing it needed was done, otherwise it's a cream puff & just temporary.

I guess it depends on his reasoning and how it would effect us (would he need to borrow my car until it was drivable, would it be a money pit, etc)

This would never in a million years happen because my DH is a total penny pincher who hates unnecessary expenses. But if hell froze over and it somehow did...uh yeah, we'd be having words. Because there's about a million things we need/want more than another car that have been waiting while we continue to build our savings and bring down the amount we owe on our mortgage.

I would be happy! Well, I think it's best to communicate first but I love cars and working on cars and I love an early Bronco!

I wouldn't care, unless he took money out of our joint savings to buy it. Otherwise, his money, his car.

My husband is not a good negotiator and I am, so honestly I would be most annoyed that he most likely didn't get a very good deal since he doesn't like negotiating haha

If he just showed up with one without discussing it with me?

If he really wanted to to fix up a car like that, we'd have to discuss our finances. Getting your teenage car for nostalgia's sake instead of a car that actually runs is a luxury and my feelings about it would be based on our situation at the time. Currently I wouldn't be impressed because we are saving for our next house. I also wouldn't be happy with only having one car between us with a baby on the way.

There are lots of expensive, not-necessary things I'd love to buy too, but it can wait until we're in that next house.

I think I would be pretty upset, especially he didn't consult with me. Even if we are a one income household and he makes the money he should still consult big purchases with me b/c we always have better things to get or save for than a new car. Plus, he wouldn't do it without consulting me anyway! You have such a great attitude about it all.

My husband knows not to make those types of decisions without me. But in the end, I trust him when it comes to cars/money. He wouldn't have done it w/o reason, so I'd let the anger subside.
