You know, like how it always happens on TV shows and in movies?

I've always been sooooooo worried about this happening in a random public place. Like grocery stores or the mall... or a movie theatre. LOL.

LOL! I laughed at *splat*. LOL!
My doctor had to break it for me when I was in the hospital but when she did, it went *gusshhhhhh*

No I heard a huge, loud pop! I was sleeping and it woke me up. I didn't feel any water and they couldn't even tell at the hospital until the lab results came back with amniotic fluid.
grapefruit / 4584 posts
Kind of! I felt the "pop" when I was lying in bed, and managed to waddle to the shower with my legs crossed as tightly as possible...once I got there, there was a bit of a SPLAT moment. So funny b/c earlier that day I had just been telling a friend that only something like 10% of people have their water break as the start of labor, and that it probably wouldn't happen to me!

I was on the exercise ball and just felt like my bladder totally let go. I stood up and it kept pouring out.
The second big gush was about 10 minutes later, and again was just like I stood there peeing! I didn't hear any popping or anything.
pineapple / 12526 posts
Nope, I felt like I peed myself. Mine was more leaking than breaking though.
pomegranate / 3980 posts
I was laying in bed sleeping, it felt to me like I had just lost control of my bladder and too the biggest pee of my life!
admin / watermelon / 14210 posts
ha i was already at the hospital and i was wearing a pad, so no splat!
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
@cyndistar3: yes! I actually kept asking the moms on my due date group if i had just peed or not. lol. I also kept texting my mom asking! I didn't have contractions right away so I was totally confused.
clementine / 943 posts
I was asleep and thought I had peed myself.
I thought this for like, two hours.
I think I was in some major denial abou being in labor!
persimmon / 1134 posts
It didn't "splat" more like gushed. It happened as I was sitting up in bed. I just felt a little pop and a big warm gush like I was peeing my pants. And it just. kept. coming.
pomegranate / 3980 posts
@sorrycharlie: lol! The only reason I wasn't actually confused is because it was my second child and I knew my bladder was incapable of holding that much fluid!
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
LOL! my water didn't break on its own when I had LO.
I'm so curious to know what this POP feels like! Wondering if my water will break this time around..
pomegranate / 3275 posts
When my water broke with DS it felt like I had peed myself, but I couldn't make it stop.... so no splat, no pop.
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
Mine was a total splat! HAHA! I felt like I needed to pee, but as soon as I stood up there was just a HUGE gush! Water squishing in my shoes kind of gush!
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
Mine leaked and definitely did not ever hit the ground. No splat.
@Boogs:
Cool

I felt a pop and had a slow leak. It didn't gush until I was getting my epidural. I had a contraction while sitting up and it all gushed out then.

Love the way you phrased the question. Mine had to be broken during the labor process, when I was around 5 cm. From then on, it gushed every time I had a contraction and I just kept saying, "this is sooo groooooossssss" every time. My DH thought it was pretty funny.
nectarine / 2019 posts
I had a double bag so to speak. My OB broke the first one and then an hour later, DH and I were walking, and it did certainly "SPLAT". I was only wearing a gown at the time. It went everywhere and DH's legs were covered and so were my slippers.

It sounds like a lot of your girls' waters broke in bed - did any of you take any precautions beforehand? Like sleep on a towel for a few weeks or anything? Was it a complete mess once you had to go back and clean it up? I'm kind of terrified at the prospect of ruining my bed, or my chair at work, or the floor of a store, etc.

Mine broke when I started pushing. On my first push it popped and came out in a huge gush.

@Boogs: alright! Our one true splat! You get the prize so far!@smocks: good question, new thread!
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
@Andrea: Haha it happened so fast, otherwise I would have take photo or video with my phone. I think we were just too busy laughing all the way out of the restaurant lol.

Like @sorrycharlie: Mine broke while bouncing on the exercise ball. It didnt feel like bladder to me because there was no muscle movement involved and felt completely involuntary.
bananas / 9118 posts
Huge POP and multiple decent sized gushes. Soaked 3 pairs of pants and 8-9 overnight pads. Amazing how much fluid there was!
coconut / 8279 posts
someone told me to get a waterproof mattress pad just in case
I didn't need it though because my water broke in the hospital. I had cervidil and was tossing in bed trying to get comfortable and heard the "pop", when I stood up it gushed (cervidil came out surfing that wave!) and totally did splat on the ground. The nurse had to drag the test strip through the puddle on the ground.

Mine broke when I went to pee after I got to the hospital. It was an initial gush and then it just kept flowing.
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@Boogs: in a restaurant!! haha. was it a fancy place? did you leave a large tip?
GOLD / papaya / 10166 posts
@junebugmama: oh no!! That happened to my friend. Her husband was in total shock. LOL
Mine popped at a restaurant. I thought it was a fart at first so I went to the bathroom and as soon as I sat down, there was a huge gush.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@smocks, they make waterproof bed covers! We HAD to get one (it was about $100) because if you get a memory foam bed wet at all, it negates the warranty on it! And nowadays, they are MUCH more comfy than they used to be. Not at all like sleeping on a trash bag (like my mom told me she did). It just feels like a sheet!
Nice to know so many peoples' broke in bed. I'm paranoid my water will break at work and ruin my super nice ergo work chair and I'll have to waddle out of the office with soaked pants in front of all these men my dad's age!

We actually have no idea when my water broke. LO's head was so low and engaged that it corked my lady parts so my waters couldn't come out. My doctor went to try to break my water when I was completely dilated and found that there was no fluid around baby's head. All the fluid came out behind her after I delivered.
nectarine / 2834 posts
Fortunately, mine broke while I was on the toilet!! Good timing huh!? It wasn't a gush though. It was actually like urinating...but out of the wrong place!
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
@Andrea: Lol no not fancy. It's one of those pay before you eat buffets. I have no clue about a tip, I should ask DH!
