Does anyone have an Ikea heaboard or bed? Is it good quality? Do you think it will last a lifetime or do you think it's something that will be replaced in 5-10 years?

We have 2. One has lasted 9 years and the other 3 and going strong. I don't know if they will last forever but they aren't super cheap either.

My sister is still sleeping in the Ikea twin bed that my parents bought 20 years ago. I had one too, and they have been through several moves, rearrangements, and transformations from bunks to two twins.

We bought one for LO instead of a toddler bed. We're pleased so far. I don't know about a lifetime, but I fully expect him to be in it at least 5, if not 10 years.

Both our eldest boys have them and I expect they will have them until they move out!!

We have the Hemnes head/footboard. Had it for 5 years and two moves without any problems!

I've had the Hemnes bed for over 6 years (and 3 moves) and while the frame is still in perfect shape, the metal support rods have come loose and the slats are messed up. It's probably very fixable, we just aren't very handy when it comes to fixing things

I have the pretty scroll bed (white) and it's lasted 2 years with absolutely no problems.

I had a full size Hemnes bed at my parents house for over 7 years. It still works good for them as a guest bed! It hasn't been taken apart at all though.
We have a queen size Malm at home now and we've had it for 4 years. It's been taken apart and put back together about 3-4 times and is incredibly sturdy. I do hate that it sticks out a bit on the outside edges (not fun for your shins!) but it's heavy and sturdy, which is great.

I had one in college & we used it as the guest bed in our house. We took it apart to make the nursery, but plan on it being Chloe's bed when she *finally* makes the transition into a big bed. It's a full sized bed.
It still looks brand new, and has been through 4 moves.

We have had one for 6 years with no problems and it has gone through one move with no problems either. It seems plenty sturdy.

I think it really varies by the bed type. I live in NYC so have moved around quite a lot. I had a Hemnes which held up really well through all those moves and a Malm that was terrible and started falling apart after one move.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: That's amazing. DH feels like if you're going to buy an IKEA bed, it's great if you're never going to move!
We have an IKEA crib and bed and like it so far. We've disassembled/reassembled the bed the once without any problems.

We have one of their platform beds that we bought before we were married. It's still rock solid, but our style evolved, so we moved it to the guest room.

We have an ikea queen sized bed that we've disassembled and reassembled quite a few times (it was a guest bed, and we switched the guest room to another room when WJ was born, then we moved it to the basement when LMW was born, and now it's back in WJ's room as his bed for guests to sleep on). Every time it does get a bit worn down (Wagon Sr. mentioned that certain things are totally stripped the last time he put it together) but I think that happens with all furniture. If you're not going to rebuild it a million times like we did, I would totally think of it as long term furniture. There are nicks and dents in ours but there are nicks and dents in our "real" furniture, too.
ETA: I would not say the same for their dressers and bookshelves though. Anything that uses cardboard as the bottom or back.

We have the MALM bed frame and it's great! I think it's pretty good quality (sturdy and isn't chipping or anything even though it's 3 years old) and it wasn't too expensive. Some IKEA stuff is super cheap and flimsy but some is quite good actually.

My in-laws have IKEA beds (not sure which style/model), and they are very nice! They seem very sturdy, so even though they haven't had them long, I would expect them to last quite a while.

We have a Svelvik frame, had it for 4 years, through 3 moves, still going strong!

@mrs. wagon: Ugh the MALM dresser is awful and yet I have been suckered into buying it a million times! Never again.

We have 2 Ikea beds, one is only 2 years old, so I can't say much about it, but I have a 7 year old Malm bed that has survived 4 moves and still looks perfect.
