I have an affinity for books.. and have tons in boxes. I need to get a bookshelf but don't have much $$ to spend. I remember the last time I bought bookshelves from walmart/target they lasted less than a year before they broke.
I know Mrs Bee has the hemnes in Olive's room. Does it hold up well? Has anyone had one longterm?
Do you have another cheap option?

Too bad you're not in NYC! We are moving and want to unload our Ikea Billie bookcases for cheap and they are still in good condition. We've had them for 5 years, we just want to combine our bookshelves with the TV unit and get the Expedit.

I have had Expedit bookcases (the huge one and a smaller one) for about 7 years, and they have lasted through 5 moves now. I am really happy with them.

I had an Ikea one awhile back, the quality was fine for me (it was the kind where you nail the cardboard-type backing on the back--don't know if they have fancier options). I think I got rid of it because I didn't want to move it (it was tall!), but I sure do have a lot of books stacked on the floor now. I currently have a small Walmart one that has lasted for years...I bet you would be fine with a good ole Swedish bookshelf.

I have 3 Ikea Expedit bookshelves (one big and two smaller ones.) They are all very sturdy and the big one holds a ton of books.

We bought 3 different book cases from Ikea when we first moved into our home. It's been over 4 years and they're still holding up well!

We have tons of Ikea stuff and all of it has lasted through at least 3 moves! I think the Hemnes stuff is a bit higher quality and heavier.
We just put the Billy Bookcases into our living room. They do have the cheap cardboard backing, but we used spray adhesive to glue fabric on to make them look fancier.

I've had a lot of Ikea furniture over the years and it has always held up well. In fact, when I moved in with Hubs and had to get rid of my Ikea bed, we had to take an axe to it because we couldn't get it out of the apartment otherwise - it was practically indestructible!

We actually have them set up on either side of our lower level family room to act as a room divider of sorts (this picture is from when we first moved in, the room is much more "decorated" with more exercise equipment now).

We have the 4x4 expedit, it's very sturdy and do far gas withstood a move. We have had it for about 2 years. We're getting 2 4x2 expedits for the nursery also. Highly recommend!

@Mrs. Yoyo: good to know!! I'm thinking of setting up a little workspace in my bedroom for all my DIY and crafting. I didn't realize how much fabric/paper/crap I had until I moved!
