I'm scared of a BFP

I want to take a pregnancy test. I am almost 3 weeks post MC and I am hoping to see a BFN (never thought I'd be hoping for that!) but I am scared it's still going to be positive.

My ultrasound showed that there was only minor "stuff" left that they said I didn't have to worry about. I am still convinced that something went wrong and I'll need a D&C. Ugh.

I am going to test in the morning, but I guess I'm just looking for support, and/or other stories.

How long did it take to get a BFN after your miscarriage?

I never tested. But I had to have two D&C's..... so by the last one they were positive they got it all. I know you don't want a D&C, but honestly it's not that bad, and at least you'll have the full closure that it's all out.

Hope that you get your BFN... and get a BFP the next time you try!

I don't even think I tested after my miscarriages. I just figured everything came out. Don't worry!! I'm sure you will see a BFN! (so weird to be hoping for that for someone!).

I never tested....I miscarried naturally and they did a repeat blood test, which confirmed my HCG was down to 0 for me. Hope you get a BFN followed by a quick BFP the first month you try!

I never tested. This first time I had a D&C and the second time they did blood tests until my HCG was 0. I'm sure it will be negative. And I hope you get your BFP the next time you try.

i haven't and I won't test. I had to induce labor since I was so far along and my doctor told me I needed to wait 3 months before we started trying. Since I actually delivered we have to wait 6 weeks for anything--bath, tampons, sex. I don't think I would be able to handle a test right after.

@sslm: Are you bleeding a lot? After my first D&C I was still bleeding like crazy, like going through a pad a minute sometimes, so I would just sit on the toilet until it calmed down which would be hours. My body was trying to get everything out. So if you're not, that's a good sign.

@artbee: thankfully I'm mostly just spotting now, with some "heavier" periods throughout the day. I guess I'm just worried that it hasn't stopped yet, but I guess since my doctor isn't concerned I should just relax!!

@Jennimac: Ack. I'm so sorry for what you're going through.

@winniebee: My blood test last week was 500 which was down from 3000 the week before and my doctor said given that, and the u/s results, she didn't think we needed to keep doing the blood work. I'm trying to trust her but I kinda wish we were testing down to 0.

@mrskc: Seems like I'm in the minority to test until negative! Maybe I should hold off...

@sslm: They told me it was normal to bleed/spot. But I had crazy heavy I can't leave the toilet bleeding. And lots of very big blod clots. That's not normal.

@sslm: If it makes you more comfortable to test and be sure, then I say go for it. Or if you're really worried ask your doctor for one more blood test to confirm. I'm sorry you're having to go through this.

If you feel up to it, do a POAS, but if you'd rather be a step removed from the whole process, ask your doctor to just do a blood test. While we didn't have to deal with this, I can see how it would be easier to just let the doctor's office draw your blood and do the test. There's something very emotional about POAS and waiting for the result.

Thanks everyone.

I tested and still got a positive, but it was faint - definitely there but light. Last week it was very dark, so I think I'm happy with this. I'll probably retry in a week!!!

I tested after their blood tests and still got a BFP and it was horrendous.
DON'T TEST until the blood work says you're back to 0 hCG.

Good luck, and baby dust for the cycle after.

@pastemoo: too late! Haha. I'm not being tested back to 0 with blood unfortunately. I might call and request one from my doctor though. Getting blood drawn is much easier.

Back to the blood lab I go... More bleeding today so we're going to test my HCG levels again. What a total nightmare this has been. It feels like we'll never get to the point where we can TTC.

@sslm: I'm soooooo sorry. In some ways I'm okay with fact that I was further along and had to deliver so I know that everything is done and out. It's what you have to do to keep from crying. I hope that you can resolve this and begin trying again. I hate that I have to wait 3 months even though my bleeding seems to be stopping now, but I'm also glad so I don't have to 'face' TTC and tests, etc. right now.

@Jennimac: Thanks. I kind of wish I had opted for the D&C from the beginning now. Hopefully the blood work comes back good and it's just taking my body a bit longer to adjust. Fingers crossed.

Just thought I'd update in case anyone is following along! My doctor just called with the results of my test, my levels are at 45. The last time we checked they were 500 so she feels confident nothing is wrong and it's just taking time. This feels like good news, I just wish my body would stop taking it's sweet time!!!!!!!

@Adira: Sort of! Since I'm not at less than 5 yet, I'm not super hopeful she's coming any time soon. I'm praying she'll come sometime in April but would be happy with May.

@sslm: That sounds like great news! I think your levels have to go back to 0 in order to ovulate again and get AF. I hope it doesn't take too much longer!

@sslm: Glad to hear that #'s came down (from 500 to 45 is a big jump downward). JUST SO YOU KNOW, my phlabotomist told me that when the nubmers get lower, they sometimes move more slowly. For me, mine went from 461 to 102 a week later, then 31 a week later, then 14 a week later, then finally down to 0 two weeks after that (5 weeks total). I got my period before I did my final blood draw and was pretty sure the levels would be at zero after that.

I know how hard it is to want to get the process over with for a variety of different reasons- namely just to have it behind you!
