J is 23 pounds and 28" long, we found the graco Nautilus and installed them like idiots. Well guess what? I didn't research enough and it can't be rear-facing and that's apparently illegal until he's 1. He just 8a months old so we have to find seats for the in-between stage. What seats do you girls recommend? We're on a budget (we asked for these for Xmas so we could save $$ and look where that got us). This mama is freaking out BC we've been driving him around all week!

It's illegal to forward face before one, but the AAP recommends to keep them rear facing until at least 2. Can you maybe sell these seats on craigslist and buy a convertible seat. I thought this site had good overview of many different convertible seats. @babyjmama: I would try to return the seat or sell it.
We have the Graco MyRide 65 and it stays rear facing up until 40 pounds. We are hoping to keep my LO rear facing until at least she's 2 or 3.

We don't have an infant seat at all, we just bought convertible from the start. We have the Combi Coccorro. I would try to return the nautilus, even at 1 you want keep him rear facing still as long as possible.

I would try to return the seats too. Maybe there's a local listserv you could list them on if that doesn't work.
