I'm pretty sure I had Cervadil (or maybe it's the other one...) but it wasn't a gel; it was a teeny tiny pill that they shoved up there (the dr that did it said it's more effective than taking it orally..)

I was zero everything when I got induced at 39 weeks (due to GD) so it took 2 doses and almost 12 hours to get to 3cm.

I was induced at 41+1 and was less than 1cm and 50% effaced. Had cervidil at 10am and it started contractions, more cervidil at 2pm and contractions got worse, water broke at 4pm, epidural at 6:30pm, foley bulb at 7pm (fell out at 4cm at 8pm), pitocin started then, i was 8cm by 10pm.

LO ended up getting stuck and I had a c section. But I don't feel like that was related to the cervidil or the induction (beyond perhaps LO was just not ready to come out and that is why she was stuck?). But I felt like the Cervidil did a pretty good job of getting things moving.

I was induced with both pregnancies so far and both methods. Oral cytotec with DS and cervadil with DD. Both inductions took almost the same amount of total time. I had pitocin and my waters manually broke for both. Honestly I don't think there was any real difference between the two for me except with the cervadil my induction started at night and I slept through a lot of it. The time things got real exciting was shorter and she was out much quicker, but I don't know if that was the induction method or being my second delivery. With both pregnancies absolutely nothing was going on that showed any signs of labor starting any time soon. I'm only a few weeks with this pregnancy and expect I'll need another induction.

I had Cervidil with DS.
The paperwork they gave me about the induction originally said Cytotec, I remember asking about it on HB and being totally freaked out when I arrived at the hospital for my induction. They explained the paperwork was old and they don't use Cytotec anymore.

Cervidil was like a tiny patch with a string, like the world's tiniest tampon, lol. It was inserted at 6pm. At 5am I rolled over in bed and my water broke. Labor started immediately after that.

@yellowbird: It can be both ways. My OB did the cytotec induction. He said sometimes they do it orally and sometimes vaginally but felt oral would be the better route for me. My midwife did my cervadil induction. I'm not sure if the induction method had more to do with time of day the induction started (7 am vs 7 pm) or provider preference.

I had a friend who also had oral cytotec. She hypercontracted on it and said she would never get it again.

One thing that I have read about cervadil being preferable is that it can be removed if need be, whereas the cytotec you are all in once it is administered

@yellowbird: yeah for me it helped I have an end in sight. I had a 41 week induction scheduled too and I felt like no matter what I knew I could handle one extra week. You will be WAY more favorable for your induction this time than last time because your body is further along and you can have more reassurance that baby is fully developed in case the gestational age is a bit off. I don't think you will make it o Monday but if you do that's so soon. Also you know now that your boy is our diamond boy! Way better birth stone than the march one. Hugs and labor dust!!!

There are some significant reasons to avoid Cytotec, certainly. The possible complications are uncommon, but very serious - so personally I would pick Cervadil/Foley induction.
@littlejoy is right - some hospitals are referring to it as Misoprostal/Miso, so be aware that it's the same thing as Cytotec.

@Arden: Thanks for sharing that! I missed it when you originally posted it. I didn't know it was the same as Misoprostal; that's what I took for my m/c, and it was awful. Now I think I understand why my doula is so against it!
