I'm now 5 days past my due date. I know your baby isn't considered post dates until 42 weeks, but I know 5 people that went that long. Four had c sections, one had a traumatic forceps birth. If you were a first time mom induced past your due date, how did it go and would you do it again?

I was induced and most of my friends were, too.
(I was because of preeclampsia, I was hospitalized a few times and put on bed rest at 37 weeks.)For me, I wasn't dilated, induced with cervidil, it made me dilate, my water broke on its own and sent me immediately into labor. DS was in a bad position and I needed the assistance of the vacuum but I feel if he was in a better position it would've been a straight shot.
For my best friend, she went 42 weeks, induced with the help of a midwife with a castor oil & root beer drink that sent her straight into labor! Unfortunately her labor stalled and she had a csection but at that point she was relieved.
Another friend was induced in both her pregnancies, one due to low fluid and one because of a placenta issue. She was induced with a pitocin drip and gave birth naturally, no epidural, no interventions.
If I were to do it again I would be doing yoga daily to get baby into a good position and if they wanted to induce, I'd probably try castor oil.

I was induced at 40 weeks and 6 days. I also needed cervadil and it took me from nothing to 6 cm in 12 hours (quit a painful 12 hours at that!). Then I got my epidural and pitocin. I was at 10 cm dialted by 2 in the afternoon, but the doc had a feeling it was going to be a c-section because my daughter was still very high, but she said I could push. I pushed for a little over an hour with little progress. I ended up with a c-section (and a 9lb 6 oz girl!)
Would I do it again? I probably would try to be a little more patient. I had a hard time with the fact that I ended up with a c-section and my body was clearly not ready for birth. Everything about my labor was medically induced and enhanced, so I feel like my body wasn't ready. I say if you can wait, try, because I wish I had.

I will be induced Mon or Tues at 40w2/4d and am hoping that since I've been progressing, my body will respond to the meds.
A lot of friends have had good experiences vs bad and I'm hoping iit rings true for me. Trying to stay away from Dr.Google.

I haven't given birth yet, so obviously I know Big Fat Nothing in the grand scheme of things, but I am scheduled to be induced on Dec 2nd due to my husband working overseas (I'll be 39&2) and I've thought A LOT about the induction process and read even more about individual experiences. I'm deeply fearful of laboring for hours, days even -if I stalled out or just didn't respond- and then ultimately ending up with a Csection after all those drugs.
With that being said, after months of reading and researching and seeing/hearing first-hand accounts, I REALLY don't think that an induction is any less predictable than a non-induced birth/labor that started on it's own. It seems that every birth is so different, and like @blackbird said, I've heard of moms who were induced and everything was no big deal, and I've heard of moms who went naturally and still had issues that arose where they stopped progressing, or like @Mamabehr, the baby wasn't in a favorable position. So I have made peace with the fact that either way, pitocin or cervadil or water breaking on my own, I can't control what happens and basically, anything can. And I have to be open and okay with whatever happens, as long as the baby is healthy, then I'll deal with whatever way things need to go down. I have felt a lot better since I made peace with that:)

I consider myself induced with my first (augmented prodromal labor that would've stopped had I not been trying to push it along). My ended in cesarean & most of my induced friends have as well, one having been 5 cm already having had bouts of preterm labor.
You're doing a great job holding out & the best advice is to just try & relax. Most of the overdue moms I've talked to went into labor on their own by 41+5 (myself included with my second, successful vbac). I actually know a mom that went past 43 weeks & her son showed no signs of being overdue (not huge & lots of vernix).
Fact is, even if you're "favorable" inductions done before 41 1/2 weeks have a significant increase in ending in cesarean (40+%) & pitocin in & of itself increases post partum hemorrhage. If your doctor starts getting antsy you can always request nst & bpp to check baby, placenta, & fluids, and rest assured that as long as baby looks good there's no reason to worry of induce (given your vitals are still good as well).

I was induced, but not overdue. My induction started at 38 and 5, due to PIH. I was not dilated at all, but 80%effaced. They inserted the foley balloon Wednesday night. I only dilated to 2cm by Thursday at noon. They started pitocin Thursday at 2pm and kept turning it up all day u til 10pm. Painful!!!! I did not progress beyond 2 cm all day. I cried and felt very defeated. They wanted to start the pitocin again the next morning (Friday) but I convinced them to send me home on strict bedrest because I was convinced I was heading toward csection. I got home at 10 am, co tractions picked up all day. I went back to the hospital at 6pm and I was 4cm! Labor!! I got my epidural a couple hours later and was at 6cm. 3 hours later I was ready to push and had DD Saturday at 4am.
I thought my induction was terrible, but in the end I got a beautiful baby and a vaginal delivery so I'm happy with that. Good luck!

I was induced at 41 weeks with my first. I was 90% effaced, but only 1 cm dilated & had been having prelabor contractions for about 3 weeks - I was ready! I got pitocin & my midwife broke my water.
It took 12 hours start to finish and I didn't get an epidural, but I did get some fentanyl & they used a vaccuum to help get him out after 4 hours of pushing. I'm very pleased with the way things went.
