I don't want to spend a ton of money on nursing bras until I have a better sense of what size to get once my milk is in, but I'm sure I'll need something to wear for the first couple weeks. I'm fine with just using sleep bras during that time, but I don't know where to get them! What were your favorites, hopefully in the $20ish range? If it makes any difference, I was a 34C pre-pregnancy and am somewhere around a 36D right now (though I've mostly been wearing old stretched-out bras in my regular size that I hadn't tossed out yet, which do the trick just fine...I'm not much of a lingerie person).

Targets are OK. They are 2 for $20, but i found some on clearance for $7 the other day. Honestly, I prefer my sports bras over any of the sleep bras I've found. I have the really stretchy ones from Target.

Would you consider nursing tanks instead? I had the target 2 for 20 ones and I find them annoying to pull down, vs the snap down ones. I just wore them around the house for the beginning-- easier than pulling a shirt up or down and the bra.

@Foodnerd81: I have a few nursing tanks but they're not supportive at all. I didn't want to get the pricier ones based on cup size and then not be able to wear them. Honestly, I was planning to spend the first couple weeks in a bra, pajama pants, and bathrobe unless I have to go out for doctors appointments and such. Once I feel up to it, I plan to get fitted and buy some really good bras.
@stine_ciro: I'll check out Target. Unfortunately, the closest one to me is a City Target that doesn't carry any maternity-type stuff, but maybe they'll have something in the bra section that will work.

Target and Motherhood. At Target, I got 2 sleep bras for $25 (a 2 pk by Gilligan & O'Malley), and at Motherhood I got the sports-bra style ones. Though the Motherhood ones were closer to $35, I wore them from day 1, and they still work well at almost 4 months pp.

that I loved for the first few weeks! I would seriously recommend nursing tanks too. I still wear mine 15 months into nursing! -
@PurplePeony: Oh, yeah definitely don't buy anything expensive or sized for at least a month. I just ordered a good one at 4 months, because I feel like things are stable.
Also, warning if you go try them on at 1-2 months pp, there is a good chance you will leak on the bras as you try them on. Oops.

I'm seconding coobies! They are awesome, I wore them through pregnancy until 12 months pp! They are super comfy and they looked decent under clothes!

I really loved the Target nursing tanks without a bra, and a big fluffy robe to stay warm! I also liked the target nursing bras, but wearing them under the tanks was overkill and they were too thin to wear under shirts without a tank layer...so I just skipped them most of the time.

@MsLipGloss: @LemonLong: the Coobies look comfy, but how the heck are you supposed to nurse in them? Do you just have to take it off completely? I can't imagine trying to hold the cup material down and get the baby latched at the same time, which is also my hesitation with the crossover-style sleep bras. Am I missing something?

I lived in the nursing tanks from target the first couple weeks. I was so exhausted that wearing real clothes seemed daunting. I haven't found a cheap bra that I like. I have one I love but it was $50. Also want to add that I am one if those people who always has a bra on. Things are just different after having a baby.
ETA: I was a 36DDD pre pregnancy. Now I'm a 36F at 2 months PP

@PurplePeony: I just pulled it up and it would stay put. I nursed until my LO was just over a year old using coobies and I actually preferred it to actual nursing bras where the padded cup seemed to get in the way when I tried to fold it down. For nursing I liked to take the padding out of the coobie (my boobs were huge anyways-didn't need it!) which made it even easier.

I have some of the crossover ones too that I wore a lot while pregnant but then I kept having issues with one boob popping out post-partum. I also like the nursing tanks from Target.

You can also just use sleep bras for the first weeks. Easy to pull down. Dealing with padded bras gets easier with practice. And as the bras get a little smushed.

I don't remember how much they are, but Belabumbum has some attractive, not-so-fitted nursing bras on their website. I bought a Medela bra on amazon; it was fine, but I wished I'd gone with one of the belabumbums.
