LO is getting her 2 month shots tomorrow, although she is 11 weeks old. I'm not sure how much she weighs but if I had to guess, around 11 lbs. I want to give her a dose of Tylenol before we go. The instructions say to ask your doctor regarding dosage but my doctor's office is closed today. What did your doctor recommend?

Wait until after the shots and ask your doc. My good friend is a pediatric resident at Vandy and she told me studies have shown that giving Tylenol beforehand can compromise the effectiveness of the vaccine.

Our ped doesn't recommend Tylenol before shots.

We always give the Tylenol after her shots. Then you know the weight for sure.

i asked before the 2-month shots and the ped's office advised me to wait until after the shots to see if there was a fever.

@MamaMoose: I have heard the same! They told me Tylenol was ok if really needed but it's best to wait and see if you can get by without it because the vaccines are more effective.

@MamaMoose: I read the same thing. Definitely wait till after the appointment. Then you have an accurate weight and your doctor will probably even tell you the correct dosage.

I don't like giving pain meds before there is an issue with fever or signs of discomfort.

Wow, my doctor said last time it was totally fine to do! I just forgot to ask the dosage. LO is a very "sensitive" baby so I was really hoping giving her a dose beforehand would help...

Agree with PPs about waiting until *after* the shots. Until 6 months, I gave DD 1.25 ml. After 6 months, we switched to 2.5 ml.

@daniellemybelle: I would wait and call in the morning, if you can. At her 2 month appt they told me 1.25, I think, but I have always waited to see if she needed it (of her two rounds of shots, I only had to use it one of the times, I think).
You can google the dosage by weight (http://www.knowyourdose.org/sites/default/files/CHPA_Pediatrics_DosingChart_FINAL%5B1%5D.pdf) but I really would want to wait and ask the ped office in the morning, with her being so young.

@daniellemybelle: honestly I found that sticking a boob in M's mouth right after the shots was far an away the most effective thing for making her feel better.

Thanks everyone. I gave her the smallest dose (1.25 ml) 3 hrs before since my dr. had ok'd it. At the office he said we could give her 2 ml when we got home, but I just did 1.25 ml again since she seems more or less okay.
@MamaMoose: I wasn't sure about that because we have nursing issues & she sometimes prefers the bottle, but I offered my boob right away and she nursed for 20 minutes with tears running down her face, poor angel. Thanks for saying that - it felt good to be able to comfort her.
