ARGH! So...LO only poops every 48-72 hours and when he does it is such a blowout. Newborn poop is so weird, and it looks like it's diarrhea to me. It's not seedy like it is occasionally with him being BF and incredibly runny--a change of clothes, occasional bath, and 2-3 diapers! I'm starting to get worried about dehydration. Has anyone else experienced this with their newborn/infant and should I be worried? His pediatrician said it isn't constipation until they haven't had a BM for 5 days! (OMG).

How old is your LO? DD stopped pooping every day as she approached 3 months. By the time we got to 3 months she was going only once a week. The pediatrician said it was fine as long as it was regular and the poop wasn't strange (bloody, white, etc). And she would have a blowout every time she pooped.

Yep seems normal. So gross but normal. You can try to go up a diaper size if it would fit their waist.

from the age of about 1 month to 3 months LO would only poop about every 4 days.. and it sounds like what you are describing.

@csassy he is almost 8 weeks. He hasn't been pooping everyday since about 2 or 3 weeks. I wouldn't be concerned normally but it isn't seedy and super runny/messy and not normal bf poop.
@oceanis723 he is still a little guy-too small for size 2 diapers but a good thought! -
My LO would only poop once or twice a week ever since he was about 4 weeks old...and every time it was a blowout or an almost blow-out (like if we didn't change him immediately it meant a huge mess). He's 4 months now and it's gotten a little better but I think it's pretty normal for EBF. One time my LO didn't go for 10 days and his doctor said that was still normal as long as he was peeing a lot, didn't seem overly fussy and didn't have a fever.

@lydg: LO's wasn't ever seedy or runny once her poop schedule changed either. It was the consistency of sour cream or thin peanut butter. And smelled like death.

Bowel movements were the number one reason I suspected my son had a problem. His we're never yellow or seedy. They were typically green and very thin and the smelled like a sweet acid. It was terrible. His problems were from not being able to digest milk and soy. If you think there is a problem you should persue it. If you just think its gross I second going up a size or the cloth diaper idea.
