@Mrs.Someone: I've used a home SA kit! Well hubby did obvi. It was accurate. Like Spaniellove, it was just count not motility and morph. It was accurate for us!

@Mrs.Someone: My DH did one too and it was accurate. Just don't read too much into the intensity of the line.

Thanks @ChuckNorris & MrsCB! I ordered the one with the lens today, so hopefully it works out well.
Today I was at a gathering with some girls and 2 of them were talking about how they got pregnant right away and they cried because it happened earlier than they expected and they weren't ready Wish that would've happened to me!

@raintreebee: and @justdarling: we're all the same age and our husband's are the same age too!
I've been away from the computer for a bit - celebrating my birthday. It was a great weekend, but I also had my down periods too because I'm 34 now, and STILL not pregnant. I thought for sure that my 33rd birthday was going to be my last birthday without a kid. And time just continues to march on...
Age: 34, Husband: 36
Location: Northern Virginia
TTC: 16 months
Appointments: I had my first RE appointment 9/27. Since then I've been through all tests (bloodwork - normal, sonogram - ok, Husband SA - Normal, HSG - suspicious filling defect, saline sonogram - confirmed defect in uterus, waiting for my period this cycle to schedule surgery)
This Thursday (11/15) is FINALLY the follow-up appointment with the RE to discuss our plan. Most likely I anticipate getting my period in a week. Then I get on BCP to thin my uterine wall so surgery can be scheduled at any time. Have the surgery to remove whatever is in my uterus effing up my chances to become pregnant. And hey - who knows, maybe that's all it will take!

@spaniellove: it's a tricky thread - I don't know how anyone can keep up with everyone's status. But thanks for trying to summarize it!

Here's my info:
Age: 32, Husband: 32 (we'll both be 33 in the next couple months)
Location: Colorado
TTC: 14 months
Appointments: While not technically an appointment, I have a quick phone consult with a RE tomorrow
Results: We did some tests back in July. Bloodwork = normal, HSG= normal, tubes clear, SA= normal, borderline low motility, DH has been taking fertility blend since August.
Plan: I have been seeing an acupncturist and will continue to do so. I have incorproated royal jelly this cycle. But, for the near future, it's using OPKs, preseed, supplements and acupuncture. It will also depend what the RE can tell me. We'll probably go in for an official appointment at some point. I am ovulating on my own but I've heard women take Clomid to "strengthen" ovulation. Maybe this will be the case for me, not sure. We'll probably look into a IUI next year, hopefully before summer.
@sweetooth: Happy Birthday Glad to hear it was a good weekend for you besides those down moments. Totally understand - I thought last year I would be pregnant when my birthday came around and it's likely that I will still not be pregnant when my birthday comes around again. Hugs and baby dust
Good luck with your follow up

I had my CD21 bloodwork done today to confirm ovulation. Does anyone know if they look at anything other than that? And what are they looking at to do that? Progesterone levels? My chart looks great and I'd love it if the magically did an hCG but I'm highly doubting they are.
grapefruit / 4703 posts
@marionberry: Yup just progesterone. I'm having the same thing on Wednesday and the lab sheet just says 'serum progesterone'. Did you have CD3 blood work done too?
pomelo / 5041 posts
@shutterbug: no. My OB didn't see the point as she thinks DH is the problem. Because he failed his SA so many times if he isn't the problem I will have to wait until the cycle after next to get in for cd3 bloodwork. I'm hoping I'm pregnant and none of this matters lol.

@shutterbug: Thanks! I'm hoping it's not a fluke.
@spaniellove: No. He's going to try tomorrow at the hospital and if that fails he has an appointment with a urologist to get it done (hopefully) on Wednesday.

@marionberry: Has anyone offered you the special collection condom?
pomelo / 5041 posts
@spaniellove: They haven't. Our problem is that we live too far away from our lab and we have to have the sample in in 30 minutes. Although we did have sex in his truck once (it's so tinted you can't really see inside) in a local place and we could always do that one morning near the hospital before he had to give his sample lol. It's crazy the things we're willing to do to help our DH's on this journey haha.

Hi ladies! Sorry I've been MIA for a bit. I found out Friday that I won't O this month on Femara & I was a little sad so I needed a HB break. The plan for next month is to increase my dose of Femara. Since two pills per day did nada this month, I am not holding much hope that 3 pills will do the trick next month.
Mentally I am already preparing myself that we will be moving on to injectable meds in late December. We may also do IUI then.
nectarine / 2705 posts
@MK0180: Thanks for relating I hope your phone consult goes well today and thanks for the mention of Clomid "strengthening" ovulation - I didn't know that. I was kind of thinking that wouldn't be an option for me since I do ovulate. I guess I'm just trying to hold off on researching too much.
@marionberry: I hope you get your BFP too and you don't have to worry about any more SA attempts!
@kentuckygirl: No worries on being MIA. These monthly roller coaster rides are hard to handle. I'm sorry that you have to wait another month - but it's good to know there's a plan. Continuing to have hope is hard. I'm already trying to think through how to get through the holiday season with this sadness. <<hugs>>

@sweettooth: Thank you! My doctor said Clomid forces you to ovulate from both sides, for double the possibility of getting pregnant. I never thought I could take it since I'm pretty sure I ovulate, so that was exciting.
OMG Just had to tell you all....after 5 FAILED ATTEMPTS DH did his SA today! I was SO proud of him. He has a urology appointment tomorrow to make sure there aren't other issues but I'm just elated that we will have info to move forward with.

Thanks @alie! Me too!!! I don't do patience well, which is why this whole take forever to conceive thing isn't working for me lol.

@marionberry: I completely understand! (check out the title of my blog in my profile - ha!).
For my husband's SA it took a week to get the results back, but I've heard of others getting the results sooner. It doesn't hurt to call the Dr.'s office in a few days to see if anything's back yet or to find out when you can expect a call.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@kentuckygirl: I'm so sorry to hear the Femara didn't work out. That must be disappointing to feel like you wasted your time.
@marionberry: WOOHOO!!!!!
@MK0180: How did it go with the RE today?
I'm starting to get antsy for my appointment next week! Reading his website made me feel a lot better that he'll be more responsive to our needs and not waste our time with treatments that we don't want. It would just be nice if the appointment could be...tomorrow!

@marionberry: YAY! Here's to great results! We had ours in about 5 working days. But I called at 4 days to be sure they weren't in early

@spaniellove: I'm so hopeful that you feel like you have a good doctor this time and that there aren't too many more tests before you have the plan in place. I'm with you on the antsy feelings!

Oh, and I am in trouble. I have puppy fever again! Over the weekend we met a cocker spaniel that just totally hit it off with my dog. They were in love! (Ignore the fact that they were both girls) My dog acted the same way she did with her BFF/boyfriend she used to have when she was younger - they kept looking at each other from across the store and crying because they wanted to play with each other. And then I said to DH, "we have to get another cocker spaniel"...and he said "I know", and when I told him I wasn't kidding, he said "I know". It doesn't even have to be a puppy!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@leilalou, @alie, @spaniellove, @sweettooth: Thanks guys! I guess I'm kind of hoping that since we work for the hospital where it was done and it wasn't sent out to another lab (done there) that we will get the results back sooner rather than later. However, I think we have to wait for the doctor to call us with results so that could take forever knowing how busy my OB is. I guess I'll call if I haven't heard anything in a week.
@spaniellove: That's so cute! We really want pets (both a cat and a dog) and had decided to wait until we're in a house next Spring to get one. But I decided that for Christmas I'm going to surprise DH with a kitten. He wants one so bad and it should do just fine living in an apartment. So I get pet fever..and hey maybe it will help our baby fever!
coconut / 8472 posts
@spaniellove: That's so cute how the dogs loved each other. But oh man, I could not handle two dogs! My dog is awesome, but we were dog sitting for my parents 1 year old dog for 2 weeks, and it made me realize I could never have two dogs at once.
AFM, I keep waiting for the trigger to leave my system, but at 7DPO/9DP trigger, it's still showing up faintly on the tests. I keep reading different things about when the trigger should leave your system too. Some things I've read say Ovidrel should be out after 6-7 days, some say 10+. Part of me wants to be hopeful since it's not going away, but I know it either needs to disappear and come back, or start getting darker and it's not doing that yet.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@MrsCB: I guess it's good then that you decided to keep testing it out instead of taking a few days off and then testing again. My fingers are crossed for the line to get darker!
I had a thought this morning that killed the puppy fever - I remembered that I like to take my dog everywhere with me, and wondered how I'd do that with a kid and two dogs. Since we're only planning on having one kid, it would work with one dog + one kid, but if we had two dogs they'd either have to stay home or ride in the back or we'd have to get a 3rd row SUV just for the dogs!

@marionberry: @sweetooth: In addition to Clomid possibly producing two eggs, I think it is also be used to grow stronger, healthier eggs, even when you already ovulate. I used to think you either ovulate or you don't. I think sometimes the egg doesn't grow or release properly, and Clomid can help with that.
@marionberry: Congrats on the SA! That is a huge step !Keep us updated.
@spaniellove: Sounds very promising with the new RE! And a new puppy would be fab.
@MrsCB: The whole trigger thing is so maddening. I had 250 mg of Ovidrel. Mine was out by DPO 5, but I have also read it can take 10 days. The nurse told me to even wait until DPO 14 to test to be sure it was out. Still, I would be slightly optimistic if I was you. Fingers crossed!
Tested today. 10 dpo. BFN. So disappointed. I absolutely hate infertility. Also, DH was not being incredibly sensitive--telling me that I can't let this get to me, otherwise we will wish our lives away--that I should just still try to enjoy life. Easy for him to say. How am I supposed to enjoy life when I can't even have a proper cup of coffee or wine or even go for a jog?!?! Leaving for a work conference tomorrow so at least I will get my mind off of it. Also, it is near my hometown so will spend the weekend with my parents.

@marionberry: Yay! Hope you get the results sooner rather than later My OB called me about a week and half later with the results.
@spaniellove: The talk went well! It was a little awkward at first because I didn't really know how the conversation was going to start so I just blurted out what our situation was and then it went smoothly from there. (BTW, you should totally get another dog - just sayin' :))
I've decided to set an appointment with her - so I'm set to see her Dec 3. I read her bio and she has also struggled with infertility and when talking to her I felt she knew exactly how I was feeling. She did talk about me getting on clomid. Although I ovulate on my own she said that clomid can help to release 2 eggs instead of one so that the sperm have more targets. I know it can increase the chances of twins but DH and I discussed it a while back and we would be ok with it. They do 3 rounds of IUI before moving on.
Afterwards, work got crazy busy and so I didn't really have a chance to process the information. It's only when I headed home after yoga that it hit me; the doc said that with clomid our chances are 8% and with IUI plus clomid it was 12%. These are not good odds and I was a bit crushed. Has anybody else heard these statistics before? I told DH this and I think, for the first time, he realized that maybe this isn't going to happen. He said he's trying not to get depressed about it. I told him that he can't because I already called dibs I also told him the cost of an IUI and it is totally doable so I think we can move forward with this sooner rather than later if we have to. Suffice it to say that he is on board with whatever path this takes us and I am so grateful that I have him as my partner
Anyway, enough mushy stuff. I'll get more in depth info when I see the RE next month.I know I'll be getting an ultrasound done. I'm a bit better today - so long as there is a chance I'll take it. I'm trying not to let it get to me and REALLY trying not Google the crap out of everything. Stupid internet.

@raintreebee: Try not to be too disappointed, 10dpo is still really early!
coconut / 8472 posts
@raintreebee: Don't lose hope yet, 10DPO is still really early. According to Countdown to Pregnancy the most common implantation day is 9DPO, and it can take a couple days for the HCG to show up.
And yeah, maddening is the perfect word for the trigger. I know that being 7DPO is really too early in most cases to have a real positive, but it's annoying that it's taking so long to go away because I'm worried I'll test in a few days and still have no idea if it's real or not.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@MK0180: That's higher than what I found here:
http://www.advancedfertility.com/clomid-unexplained-treatment.htm#unexplainedsuccess
But that's still significantly higher than the untreated condition!
@raintreebee: 10 is early. There's still plenty of hope! You have to have hope!

@spaniellove: I have puppy fever too! My husband and I spent time on this lab rescue website this past weekend, and talked about what kind of fence we need to get for our backyard I see a Caribbean vacation or a puppy/dog in our future to balance out all of this IF crap
You're smart to think through life with two dogs and a kiddo though!
@MrsCB: I don't know a lot about triggers, etc. But I am thinking positive thoughts for you!
@raintreebee: Thank you as well for more clomid info. I have a feeling I'll be hearing more about it at my next RE appointment tomorrow. And now I feel more informed thanks to the brilliant women on this thread Sorry to hear about the BFN - but like the others said, maybe it's too early? Yes, infertility sucks. Big time. I got my first bill that includes all of the tests I have been through in the past 6 weeks and I just cried for a bit when I processed the $ amount. I'm not even into treatments, and I'm crying over the amounts. I have a feeling I'm not cut out for this. // I hope you enjoy the time with your family and not to defend your husband, but maybe it's just how he is processing it all. I know my husband snapped at me this past weekend when I told him how sad I was, and upset and asked why he wasn't. And he said he was sad. Really sad. And that I need to remember that he just processes the sadness and emotional side of all of this differently than me.
@MK0180: Glad to hear your first contact with the doctor was positive. The percentages that you were told sound close to what I was told as well. Stay away from google, and hug your husband Hope your next appointment is just as positive and you continue to believe in that chance.

Hi everyone, I saw this thread just now as I'm beginning to participate once again.
I found out this summer that I have a tumor on my pituitary gland that is causing me to not ovulate (plus many other issues) and very high prolactin levels. The high prolactin is what causes the infertility. It's a hormone produced when women are pregnant - which leads to lactation as well. So, long story short, my body acts as if it's pregnant.
I'm not sure if there are any other issues regarding my health at this time, but the endocrinologist prescribed me medication to help with the prolactin levels and tumor. I've been on it since August and seems to be working. I'm a hot mess hormones wise now. Haha. I finally got a period after not having it for a year. My period was absent unless I was on birth control which helped my hormones work opposite to most women. Unfortunately, this was going on since I was a teenager. No other doctor took the time to find out why I wasn't getting a period or birth control was the only thing helping until now.
I am supposed to have a three month check up next week, but haven't been able to get my blood drawn due to craziness in our area. I'm going to have to push back for now, but will update as soon as I can.
I really hope that I am able to work with a RE as soon as possible. I can't imagine never being able to have a child. My biggest fear is miscarrying often due to my condition.

@mrscb: I hope your trigger leaves and then shows up again!
@raintreebee: I will definitely keep you guys updated. DH had his urology appointment today and the doc says everything looks good but we're still waiting on the SA results of course. I'm 10dpo today with a BFN as well, so I totally understand. I hope we both get BFP's by 14dpo.
@mk0180: There's been so many positives with IUI on HB. I'm sure you'll be one of them.
@babybear: That's so bad that none of your prior doctors ever thought to question it. I'm glad you have answers now and wish you the best of luck!
