@Mrs.Someone: I get my blood sugar, cholesterol, and thyroid checked regularly --- lots of lovely diseases in my genetic background Thankfully all good so far! But that can definitely always change - my mom didn't get diagnosed with Hashimoto's until she was in her 50's.

@alie: I get it! I just mentioned it because I know you're struggling with infertility too. I've had thyroid issues for years, but just now was told about the Hashimoto's through an antibody test (not standard). Dr. Google is what suggested it is caused by the MTHFR mutation (which is its own blood test).

@justdarling: Weird that your doctor wants you on birth control next month if the cyst isn't gone. Did they test to see if it's estrogen producing? I had a cyst on my right ovary but since it wasn't estrogen producing they weren't worried about it and said it should go away in 2-3 cycles. I hope your femara only cycle works though!!

@kentuckygirl: How exciting! I can't wait to hear some good news when it comes back.

@sweettooth: Idk anything about the beta testing. I go in tomorrow morning for the next one and will probably find out about noon again. When I go in I'll ask the nurse how many betas they usually do. Since it's an RE clinic, I'm sure they do far more than a typical doctor.

@spaniellove: So what's the update? Do you have a negative pregnancy test yet?

@mrs.someone: I'm glad your naturopath is so active in finding out what's wrong. Knowing what's wrong always made me feel better because I felt like then I could do something about it.

@marionberry: 26 is a bit enlarged. The nurse doing the ultrasound and my dr's nurse was a little worried that it could be a cyst. They think it might be left over from last month. They are hoping it drains and they said they'll look for it next month. I'm not worried (only just a teeny tiny bit.)

They said they like follicles under 25.

    Thinking positive thoughts though.

Oh, the float test is what they said they were going to do because of DH's low morphology on his SA. The doctor says they do this 'float test' and take all the sperm the floats up to the top. (This will ensure that the 'good' sperm will be inseminated.) I'm not sure why they didn't do this on my first IUI. I had to remind my nurse that the doctor told me she could do this.

@marionberry: she thinks the cyst may be left over from the follicle I had on that side last month. She is waiting for it to either rupture or drain. I haven't done a blood test since she is just watching it for now. If it doesn't go away on its own, the birth control will help to shrink it. Hopefully it goes away on its own this cycle.

@bluestriped bee: I am also currently dealing with a cyst. The only issue with it is that it has kind of postponed things for me. I can't do the menopur shots until it goes away. Hopefully your's shrinks on its own. I'm thinking positive thoughts for you!

@marionberry: No, and it's just easier for me to think about moving forward with IVF than it is for me think about a failed cycle so I just don't want to think about this cycle anymore.

Waiting stinks! I am 10 days past trigger & IUI (which may mean I am only 9 DPO) but I had a BFN this morning. I am just ready to know if this cycle is a bust or a success and move on. How are the rest of you lovely ladies today?

  15. sweetooth

    nectarine / 2705 posts

@kentuckygirl: The waiting totally sucks! Do you think at 9 DPO it's still too early to tell? I know what you mean about wanting to know if it's a bust or success. I'm still hoping for you that this cycle is a success!

I'm doing well. It's been three days since my IUI and I feel good. I'm trying to keep busy and not think about the results, but the progesterone 2x a day makes it kind of hard NOT to think about it. I just realized though, that my beta bloodtest is the day of the Inauguration. I live in the DC area. I hope I don't encounter traffic or delays to get my results! (I know, so selfish But it's allowed after this long of a TTC journey

  16. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@kentuckygirl: The waiting just might be the worst part. Hang in there!

AF is here with a vengeance...super early, and on top of it all she brought awful cramps. It's insulting! I've never even had anything close to an 11 day LP before. At least now I can be 100% sure and know that I'm less than a month from starting my injections for IVF! I've been waiting for that for so long!

  17. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@sweetooth: I used to live in DC. How cool that you do. Inauguration may be nuts. I'd probably give yourself plenty of time to get there.

@kentuckygirl: After my BFP through the beta, I went home and peed on a stick at 12dpo. You could BARELY see a line. I would not worry at 9 or 10dpo if you're getting a negative. It's still really early. Plus some people like me emit really low levels of hCG apparently. If you're one of them, it will take longer.

@spaniellove: I was so sad to see AF on your chart today. I honestly thought you had the best odds out of any of us given those big follicles. I just know that IVF with ICSI is going to get you pregnant. You'll already have embryos before they're implanted and given that your LP has looked like mine, I have no doubt you'd be able to carry them to term. So excited for you!

  18. marionberry

Also, I'm finding myself way scared about MC. DH keeps getting mad at me for worrying. I can't make him understand that I feel like we worked so hard to get here that I'm a million times more scared of losing it. Part of it, I'm sure, is I'm very hormonal right now. But I see his point that I need to calm down. I hope that all of you who get through this process and get BFPs don't worry as much as me once you're preggers.

  19. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@marionberry: I don't know WTH happened with my LP. You know I've always had 14 day LPs. Part of me is a little worried because I've had a m/c before, and I don't know if I just need more progesterone or what.

  20. Mrs.Someone

    pomelo / 5228 posts

@marionberry: Sorry to hear that you're scared Have you had your progesterone checked post-BFP for peace of mind? Seeing a good P number would be a good sign I think. They might be able to add it on to the blood tests you've already had, so you don't have to go in again.

So to add a bit of insult to injury, today we had our 2nd plumber call in 2 weeks. Turns out the problem this time was my fault, tampon blockage Not sure why this hasn't happened in the 4 years we've lived here, but it feels like just another insult to this whole thing at the moment! Hopefully I won't have to worry about that again for a long time...

@spaniellove: Definitely talk to your RE about it. I'm sure they can advise you as to what may be causing the shortened LP. Could it have anything to do with the injectibles? Or would it be something relating to the endometrin?

@mrs.someone: I think I'll ask my RE about doing one when they draw my blood at my u/s. They have to test my thyroid level anyway. Hopefully there's no issues before then. Sorry about the tampon thing. That sounds like something that would happen to me.

@spaniellove: my lp was only 9 days, as opposed to the typical 12-14 days, on injectables. i plan on asking the doc about it when i go in on monday. it freaked me out.

  24. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@marionberry: @raintreebee: I should mention it when I see my RE for the trial transfer next week. I didn't want to think anything of it, but actually I had really faint spotting all week. @raintreebee were you on progesterone? The nurses were baffled when I told them my period was here because I was on suppositories, although not a high dose.

  25. sweetooth

    nectarine / 2705 posts

@spaniellove: Yeah, I'm baffled too. I thought the progesterone was supposed to keep the period from happening. Here's to great things in the quickly approaching IVF!

@marionberry: When did you live here? I grew up in the area, but then moved away to the west coast (LA and SF) for about 8 years. // I think it's natural that you're a little worried right now. I think I will be too when I find out good news. I probably will be worried for a good three months. Hopefully yoga can help keep me calm through the worries. We can help keep you calm

@Mrs.Someone: Maybe it was just TP? Not tampons? We switched toilet papers after repeated clogging in our house. No more charmin soft here! I never thought about TP prior to homeownership. Here's to not having to use tampons for a while! I look forward to that day too!

@sweetooth: I interned there in college for 3 months and lived there after college for 6 months until a family emergency brought me back home. This would've been in 2008. I loved DC. But I love the West Coast more. I'm way too relaxed and casual for the East Coast, lol.

@marionberry: Understandable. Family is what brought me back to this coast in 2010. But man do I miss the California Cool lifestyle I think my husband and I may move back there one day. It's where we met, fell in love and got married. I miss it...sigh!

Update: So now on day 15... IUI was not done.

I did OPKs this cycle with no trigger shot. I was suppose to contact my doctor when I got the + OPK. Well, I got a second line on my OPK yesterday morning but it wasn't as dark as the evap line, so I continued to test until it was actually positive. Yesterday after work, I tested again.... negative. Tested this morning negative. Uh oh, did I miss my LH surge? Told the DH that he might have to make his 'deposit' sometime today. Call the doc and they told me and my DH to come in for the IUI.

Well DH hasn't been feeling well and he had a really bad asthma attack yesterday and had to up his steroid medication (prednisone). Well, he wasn't able to make his deposit today. He tried but it just wasn't happening. (Kinda one reason, I was trying to see if they will freeze his deposits for future use but they already said that success rates go down when using frozen sperm.) Anyway, he was completely embarrassed at the doctors. I feel so bad for him. I told him that it was okay and that I would talk to the dr and maybe schedule the IUI for tomorrow. Since he was in town and kinda close to my work, we went out to our favorite lunch place in town to make him feel better.

Called the dr and they wanted me to come in for an ultrasound... just to see if my eggs were released or not. Well, my eggs were released and my dr was trying to figure out why I didn't get a + OPK earlier. Whelp, dr wants me to stop using OPKs and start doing trigger shots from now on.

I'm not that bummed. I wasn't really feeling this cycle... I feel like I kinda half assed it this month. Didn't use OPKs as long as I wanted. Didn't take my prenatals for the past 5 days (oops). We did BD on Sunday so there's still a chance. I guess I am in my TWW but not really.

Oh, dr wants me to come in on Day 10 to do an ultrasound next month. They think I ovulate earlier and also since one of my follicles were so mature at Day 13, they want to catch it earlier. On the ultrasound, they did see the follicle was collapsed but they said they are unable to determine when the egg was released. It could have been days ago or earlier today. Who knows!

On another note, anyone want my OPKs? I have probably 25-30 wondfro tests that will expire by the end of 2013. So I might as well, send them to someone who will use them. I've always had trouble deciphering them, anyway.

Oh, I asked the doctor about using a sperm donator and she asked me why. She knows about my DH's health and she didn't seem to think it was him. I know she said this without the intent of worrying me (and she's really nice, I like her and all) but she said something along the lines that female infertilty is more frequent than male infertility. I was a little surprised she said that but maybe she was just trying to calm me down and make me think it wasn't my husband. Yeah, now I'm going to have that thought in my head that I'm the reason for not being able to conceive. Whatever... health wise, I am healthier.

Well, IUI #2 (part 2) next month. It's like I'm getting a redo.

ETA: Sorry for the super long update. Thanks for reading!

  33. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@bluestriped bee: Let me say, I really understand what you're going through. My ordeal with DH was exactly the same. He does not do well with anxiety and feeling forced to "produce" on a schedule. We had wanted to do a frozen sample (which no one ever said was worse) but due to health issues weren't able to get it done that cycle. He absolutely failed after hours to do it in their collection room. Despite being 45 mins away we found that he did much better at home, and then we totally sped up the freeway to try to get it there on time. If you can't do it at home, could you rent a hotel nearby for that day or something to try to make it feel more comfortable for him? Just suggestions that helped us.

I ovulate usually on day 12 or 13 and so it's good that they've recognized you ovulate early too. I didn't have a positive opk on day 11 so they triggered and did the iui on day 13. Obviously it worked so I have really good feelings that with doing an early trigger shot for you, things could really turn out well.

I'm surprised your doctor seemed to really implicate it's you. It could be you or him or in our case a combination of both. That would really annoy me. I think give it another 1-2 times for the iui to work with his sperm and then if you want to try it once or twice with donor sperm, I think you do what you want to do. How many iui's do you want to do, given that you said you were going to adopt if they didn't work?

Big hugs and best of luck next cycle. BD'ing now a few times wouldn't hurt either. With multiple eggs dropping they can take a few days.

AF arrived super early last night and like @spaniellove while I was taking progesterone supplements, aaarrrggghh! My cycle was only 24 days.

  35. kentuckygirl

    pear / 1786 posts

@bluestriped bee: so sorry the IUI didn't happen. We did an IUI last month after I had already released the egg from my largest follicle. I still had one follicle but I think the IUI after the fact was pointless. I can say that in hindsight since AF arrived last night! Hope IUI #2, take 2, turns out better. Hopefully your hubby will feel better next time.

  36. sweetooth

    nectarine / 2705 posts

@kentuckygirl: I'm sorry to hear this! I am so confused by AF arriving for you and @spaniellove while on progesterone. The short cycle is crazy too. I guess that's why they say that sometimes it takes a few cycles for this method to work. Maybe your body is adjusting to it? HUGS!

  37. kentuckygirl

@sweetooth: I hope I do adjust & next month is better. Thank you!

  38. sweetooth

    nectarine / 2705 posts

@bluestriped bee: Sounds like things worked out for the best? If you weren't feeling it and things didn't come together for your husband, maybe it wouldn't have been the best cycle. I think it's great to think of it like you're getting a redo on #2.

I second what @marionberry said about gathering the collection at home. Is that an option for you guys?

Also, the statement "female infertilty is more frequent" - Just forget about that! It takes 2 to tango, and I think it's a 50/50 puzzle no matter how you look at the results.

  39. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@kentuckygirl: Like I just said on the POAS thread, so sad to hear AF came for you. On to IUI #3? I told myself if I got a BFN and AF I'd just tell myself only 3 days until I start over with Clomid and get to try again, so I'm telling you to think the same thing. Don't think about it not working, think about the opportunity to try again in a few days.

@kentuckygirl: OMG! What is going on with us? I'm so sorry that happened to you, sweetie. Sending huge hugs from afar, and hoping the next one goes much better! Do you have any plans to indulge yourself over the next few days or are you going straight into injectibles again?
