Hi Ladies. Have any of you done IUI with gonadotropins (injectables)?
If so, which drugs were used and on which cycle days? Do you remember the cost?
Did insurance cover it?
Was your cycle successful?
Any other info I should know?
Thank you!

I took Gonal-f for my first IUI I think 75ml a night starting cycle day 5 I believe... it was pricey about 1,000 ....no insurance
I ended up having close to 14 follicles needless to say we canceled that cycle and I went back to clomid, low and slow!

I did gonal-f too. I don't remember it being that expensive, but I did Femara first and then the injections at the end. It was a really easy injection, no pain at all. And it worked great, gave my follicles a little extra bump in growth. The cycle I used it I had 2 mature ones, and one became my 2 month old :).

I used Bravelle and Menopur for an IUI and the meds for that cycle cost around $2500. Menopur is expensive! I ended up with 5-6 mature follicles. But I also used only two doses of leftover Menopur in a non-IUI cycle and only had 1 follicle that time and got lucky, so apparently low-stim can work just as well.

I never did injectables for IUI, but for my IVF I used Gonal-F. I had 3 pens (900 units per pen) and the three pens would have been about $4k without insurance. You'll probably only need one pen, and they may even make pens with less medicine per pen, which would make it cheaper.

For IUI I used Menopur and 1 vile of Granilex. I had 4 mature follicles. Insurance didn't cover the injectible drugs so I think I paid about $1,000 for that one cycle. I was also on Femara. I don't remember the exact cycle days that I used it on (this cycle was about a year ago) but I know that I started Femara first and then was on the Menopur for like 5 days. I always started Femara on CD 3. This cycle didn't work for us and we ended up going on to IVF which was successful on the first time.

I used follistim. The first IUI I had to stim for 20 days, the second IUI I only stimmed for 17 days. Here is what each cycle looked like as far as blood work, monitoring and dosages:
First cycle:
• CD1
• CD2 U/S
• CD3 Start 75iu Follistim
• CD7 U/S
• CD10 U/S and B/W – Raise dosage to 100iu
• CD12 U/S
• CD15 U/S and B/W
• CD18 U/S – Raise dosage to 125iu
• CD20 U/S – Follicle is at 12mm
• CD22 U/S – Finally have a follicle at 15mm
• CD24 U/S – Follicle is 18mm, trigger at 9pm that night. Lining is ~10
• CD26 IUI
• CD28 – Start progesterone suppositories 2x a day
• BETA 6/28 (CD40) – BFN
Second cycle:
• CD1
• CD3 U/S Start 125iu Follistim
• CD7 U/S – 4 follicles: 2-8mm on RO, 1-10mm and 1-8mm on LO. B/W, keep dosage at 125iu
• CD9 U/S – No change, B/W
• CD11 U/S – B/W shows E2 dropped, biggest follicle is now 9mm. Raise dose to 150iu
• CD14 U/S – 9 follicles between 7mm and 11mm. Keep dose the same, hope cycle doesn’t get canceled.
• CD16 U/S
• CD 18 U/S –B/W, Cut dose in half to 75iu
• CD 19 US – 3 mature follicles, lining is great
• CD21 IUI
• CD 23 – Start progesterone suppositories 2x a day
• BETA 8/3 – 145
• BETA 8/5 – 285
• 8/18 – U/S confirmation
ETA: luckily insurance covered all the drugs so I only had to pay a small copay, I think it was $15 for each vile.

I did Menopur for 2 cycles. And I think I did Bravelle for part of my third (only b/c I was able to trade in meds at my fertility clinic). I also triggered and did progesterone suppositories. My first two cycles were just the meds and timed BD. The third time (which, according to my RE was the higest odds) we did a high dose of the meds (225 iu i believe) and an IUI. I had 4 follies and aaaaalmost overstimulated. But, it worked and we got pregnant on that cycle.

I took Follistim for one cycle. This was coupled with Ovidrel and IUI and am currently 18 weeks pregnant.
Insurance did not cover any of the injectibles or IUI and I think it was a little over $600 for one 350 IU cartridge (I believe - I used maybe 75 IU each day starting from CD3 to 12). I then took Ovidrel on day 12 to stimulate ovulation. I had 3 mature follicles, the largest was 23 mm, smallest at maturity was about 19.
Total cost about $1200.
