I am on my 3rd IUI and I am suppose to start my period tomorrow. I am as usual preparing for the worst and I am wondering what to do next cycle if this one didn't work. So my question is... has anyone used the injectable meds instead of clomid? How much did they cost? Were they successful? I am trying to think of something that we might want to try next month if needed.

Our second IUI cycle with injectibles was successful. I used follistim both times. I can't comment on the cost as my insurance covered it. But with my old insurance I think we were quoted $3000-4000. What I liked about the injectibles was that they could adjust the dosage based on how my follicles are looking. I stimmed for 3 weeks the first time and 2.5 weeks the second time. Towards the end I was going to the RE for monitoring almost every day/ every other day depending on my blood work.
I would definitely talk to your doctor and see what they suggest. Hopefully you won't have to worry about it because the clomid worked!

I did two rounds of Clomid/IUI with no results. So for my 3rd IUI we switched to injectables. Like what @KT326 said, they could adjust the dosage and really monitor what was going on in my body. I think the Clomid just made everything happen too fast. The injectables did require a lot more monitoring, but I think it's what really worked for us. My pesky little follicles need to be watched and encouraged to do their job
My 3rd IUI, the first IUI with injectables, was my very first BFP ever. And now my son is 10 months old.I don't know the cost, insurance covered my meds.

I'd say the meds would range for 2-4k on average. You can get discounts on some if you have to pay yourself. My doc didn't like to do injectible+IUI because you have less control over multiples (and/or a higher liklihood of having to cancel the cycle if there are two many follicles But it's great to hear successful stories like @sweetooth! But I did 5 unsuccessful rounds of Clomid (just with TI), one round of sequential Femara + injectables (IUI canceled due to poor response) and now am starting my 3rd cycle on straight injectables at a higher dose + IUI. Injectables have been somewhat successful for me. I've gotten pregnant twice with the higher dose, but I say only somewhat successful because I don't have a take home baby yet. They are expensive though compared to the $25 Clomid, but worth it for us because nothing else has worked. We don't have insurance for meds and between the gonal-f, ganirelix, ovidrel, the IUI itself and all the monitoring appts (around 4-5 per cycle) it has been around $3500 per cycle. But then, you might not have to have as high of a dose as I've had, since the big factor in the total cost is the meds.
Again, hopefully you won't have to even worry about this and your current cycle will be a success! But your doctor should be able to quote you their standard protocol for injectables + IUI, and then you could go to Freedom Pharmacy's site (way cheaper than local pharmacies in my experience) and price out the meds. I know my RE starts out at doses of either 75iu or 150iu of gonal-f, and usually you stim for 7-10 days, if that helps as a reference when looking at prices. (I'm at 225iu a day, and even added in an extra 37.5iu toward the end of last cycle + end up needing 4 or 5 ganirelix, so that's why my costs are a lot higher than most people start out at)
