We still aren't 100% sure that's what it was but my OB believed ds had a vanishing twin that caused my early bleeding. Lost somewhere between 5w1d and 5w4d but we never did see much besides the sac and a little tiny blurry blob on u/s. It was so early and we never saw a hb so I never even thought to possibly tell him!

That's a really interesting read. I had a vanishing twin. My mom didn't tell me about it until I was older and at the time I was sort of like oh ok that's interesting, I hope that means I don't have twins. lol. I think that it is helpful to know now in case something ever comes up. I think if you were to tell LO when they were younger they would have no idea how to digest the information.

I don't think fetal chimerism applies JUST to vanishing twins, but possibly miscarriages, too, because some studies show that the mother reabsorbs those tissues and they find themselves in places like your cardiac tissue. Not that it would necessarily have any genetic information on future embryos, but thought it was interesting nonetheless. With my first pregnancy, I passed a sac but never any fetal tissue, despite being 12ish weeks along. I always assumed I had reabsorbed it between 8 and 12 weeks

I think I will have to tell DD about her twin someday. I have a picture of her as a blastocyst and there is a second blastocyst there so she'll know there was two. I'm not sure what I'll say, but I don't think I can ignore it, especially if she asks.
