My iPhone 4 all of a sudden won't play sound. I know the speakers work because it rings if I get a call or when my alarm goes off. But if I play Pandora or try to watch a video there is no sound. And if I try to push the volume button on the side to turn the sound up the little screen that shows the volume level doesn't even come up. Any ideas? I've already tried the handy trick of turning it off and turning it back on.

I don't know any great advice, but sometimes after I unplug my headphones, it takes my phone a minute to realize it has to use its speakers now. Maybe try plugging in your headphones, making sure the pandora sound works and then unplugging them and seeing if that kind of "resets" the speakers?

Weird! If nothing else works, maybe you could back everything up and do a factory reset and/or upgrade/reload the software?

@TurtleDoves: Tried the headphones and sound played fine through there... but still won't play through the speakers. UHHHH. I really don't want to get a new phone right now because I want to wait for the iPhone 6.

I dont know other than the obvious: check your settings. My phone the other day wouldn't ring and the alarms wouldn't go off, yet music and stuff worked. Some how or another one of the settings was changed (I think it was the change with buttons setting)

@MamaMoose: is it current with ios updates? My SIL had this happen to her twice first time i was able to figure it out for her by just updating her ios, the second time there was no other way around it but to take it to apple...i cant remember what the fix was...

@MrsCastro: It's not and I'm guessing that's part of the problem but I don't have enough freaking storage left to update!!! I guess I'll have to go delete some pics. Even though I have dropbox it just makes me so nervous to delete pics of my baby!!

@MamaMoose: memory sticks are so cheap these days - maybe back your photos up to your Dropbox and a memory stick?? I delayed updating forever but finally did and my phone works so much better. I couldn't even get half the apps I wanted before.
